Question: Read any of these books!?
I am taking an AP English class next year, and for the summer, I am required to read "Lincoln at Gettysburg" by Garry Wills and "The Color of Water" by James McBride!. Can you tell me if these books are good!? In addition to those two, I have to pick one book off this list!. If you have read any of them, please help me pick one or tell me about them!. Thanks!
One of these five:
1) Freakonomics- by Steven D!. Levitt and Stephen J!. Dubner
2) Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science- by Atul Gawande
3) Fast Food Nation- by Eric Schlosser
4) Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America- by Barbara Ehrenreich
5) The Autobiography of Malcolm XWww@QuestionHome@Com

First of all, you're going to LOVE The Color of Water!. As far as the others!.!.!.!.Fast Food Nation is a great read, albeit a little verbose at times!. Nickel and Dimed is a quick, easy-to-understand read!. It's also very entertaining!. I taught a GED class using that book and Fast Food Nation!. I really love Nickel and Dimed, but many of my students felt the author came across as condescending!. I don't really pick up that tone, but I do understand how students who have very disadvantaged perspectives may read it that way!. I think it's really entertaining and it'll hold your interest enough to finish it quickly!. So, even if you hate it, you'll have enough time to read another one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read Nickel and Dimed!.!.!. shows the reality of minimum wage jobs!.!.!. well written & worth reading!.

Autobiography of Malcolm X!.!.!. a great book, very intense!.

Color of Water!.!.!. a good book, I think it was about a bi-racial family!.!.!. read it a long time ago!.

Interesting choices, all seem to have a theme of looking beneath the surface of life and exploring hidden realities!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Freakonomics was interesting to skim, as was Fast Food Nation!. I really liked The Autobiography of Malcolm X!. I didn't read the other two, but I heard Nickel and Dimed was good!. I would choose Malcolm X, but it depends on what you are interested in!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really enjoyed Freakonomics!. Of course, if you are not interested in that stuff, they its not the book for you, but it just brought up some cool points that you would never really think about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
