Question: What are some Young Adult books for a 10-year-old girl!?
My daughter seems to gravitate to the YA section of the bookstore because she's an advanced reader and the subject matter there is saucier!. However, I don't want her reading any books with sex in them (I keep her away from my books, too)!. Any suggestions for good YA titles for girls!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Sarah Dessen Books (She'll love them!)
Lurlene McDaniel Books(If she likes sappy sad stories, they taught me a lot)

Do not let her read the Gossip Girl series, or the A-list!. My friends read those when they were younger, still are, and it's warped their view!.

I don't reccomend Clique either!.

I know you said she's an advanced reader, I was too, but personally I LOVED the Madison Finn books!. They were easy reads and if she's in to school and computers, she might like it even more!.

and then there's the Harry Potter books (I read up to 4, because that's all that was out, when I was 8-10) She might find those interesting!.

Sleeping Freshman Never Lie!. It's told from a boy's perspective but that made it fairly interesting!.

The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big, Round Things

The Clique series is fun but incredibly brainless!. But introduce her to the Bartameus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud!. They are found in the childrens section but are entertaining for any age!. The Golden Compass is also a good book for all ages!. Ender's Game, while not even a YA novel, is, I think a wonderful choice for any young reader!. 10-year-olds should not be reading a lot of the material in the YA section because YA literature deals with problems that teenagers face, like sex, drugs, depression, and just some scarier subject matter!. There are good children's books that aren't just for kids!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

lyour daughter iss 10, even if you dont know it, she knows about sex!. if she reads the books, it might give her incentives not to have it because of the hardships of raising kids as teens they describe!. Or, buy some of my recommended books and save it until shes a little older, but trust me, she is old enough to read them, and if she doesnt know about it, she might want to do it so she can find out!. I was her age when I started reading books with sex in them and i was fine, for I too am an avid reader!.

I buy lots of books for nieces and nephews, but I read everything myself first so I can judge reading level and appropriateness!. There are people on Yahoo telling 11 year olds to read TWILIGHT and it is NOT appropriate nor are alot of the other books in the YA section of the bookstore!. There are so many very good books that can keep her occupied if you guide her to them!. Many parents have no idea what their kids are reading!.
