Does anyone know why, in the second book we learn that Bella is not affected by any of the vampires special talents (like edward reading her mind or that Jane person putting her in pain) but yet Alice can see her future!?!? Why just Alice!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because her mind is very private!.

Bella has a very private mind!. She can't be touched there!. What Edward and Aro and Jane do is a mental thing!.
With Alice and Jasper, it's all outside the mind!. Jasper's is a physical effect on the body and Alice just sees the results of a person's decision!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What Edward and Aro do is clearly a mental thing; Jane, also, works inside the head (Jane doesn't actually inflict pain on anyone's body, she just puts the illusion of pain inside her victim's head!. It's a very effective form of torture)!. Conversely, what Jasper does is no illusion!. He affects the physical body, slowing the pulse and upping the endorphin levels to calm someone, for example, or raising the pulse and pumping out the adrenalin to excite them!. Alice, also, works outside the mind in the realm of possible realities!. She doesn't see the thought process behind the decisions, just the outcomes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that's the idea of the whole story!. I believe personally that it is her mind that is not affected by the powers of the vampires!. In Alice's case, she is able to see Bella's future simply because that is something that is her entire physical being!. She can't tell what she's thinking during the visions I don't think, because of the same reason (whatever it may be) that Edward and Jane come across!.
And I also realized, Jasper has power over her as well with the emotions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They think that her mind works differently tha everyone else's, thats wh ythey expect her to have great powers once she is a vamppire!. Alice can see her future and Jasper can control her emotions because that has to do with her physically, reading her mind and putting her in pain have to do with her mind, mentally, so her mind is just different from everyone else's, that is why she is very unique, and the Volturi want her in the gaurd once she changes!. they said that nobody can get inside Bellas mind its private there nobody an touch her there!. and Alice can see her future because that isnt about the inside of her thats the outside and it has to do with her decisions but Alice doesnt see the reason for the desision!. The reason they cannot affect Bella is because they are trying to mess with her mind!. Where as Alice's power is to see the future which has nothing to do with the mind!. I would recommend reading the third book, Eclipse, or for more answers, you can go to

I agree with some of the other users for one its something thats outside her mind but I really think it is Stephenie Meyer forshadowing not from chapter to chapter but from book to book I think that since Edward and Jane's powers dont effect her mind its what would lead to her having extra powers if someone hopefully Edward were to change herWww@QuestionHome@Com

Becuase Alice's talent doesn't mess with Bella's mind or anyones mind!. She's immune to their "mind games" where they can see in her brain!. Alice just see's Bella's body doing things!. that's that's why Jasper's works on Bella too!. It's her body, not mind!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
