Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Oh, lots

Scarlett, or any other GWTW "sequel"!.
Twilight, etal!.
Any of the Harry Potters that I haven't already had the misfortune of!. And the same with Wally Lamb, Pat Conroy, Janet Evanovich and James Patterson!.
The DaVinci Code, probably, (someone gave it to me, but it never makes it off the bottom of the stack!.)

Oh hell, this is ridiculous!. I could go on forever!. Life's just too short for a lot of the crap that passes as writing!.
I'll try any classic, but I admit there are a few I've regretted and will never try again!.

On the other hand, I would like to say that you are seriously missing out by pre-judging War and Peace!. It's one of my favorite books and I've read it at least a dozen times (I started young!)!. It is so much more than dynastic politics, though it is certainly epic, in the best possible sense of that word!.
Sorry, I just had to get that in there!.

By the way, it's probably a good thing for me that I didn't answer sooner!. I'm sure my list would spawn many enemies but hey, to each his own!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

From the bestseller end of the spectrum:

The Gor series, by John Norman!.

I mean, seriously!. However, 'Houseplants of Gor' is hilarious!.

From the classics:

I hated Balzac when I read 'Pere Goriot' in French!. I probably won't read anything else by him!. _Three pages_ to describe how Pere Goriot makes a sandwich!. Zzz!.

I doubt I'll ever make it through 'Remembrance of Things Past,' but I _have_ tried willingly to do so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Plato's "The Republic!." I had a friend who used to be very friendly!.!.!.but then a teacher recommended that he read that book, and he quickly turned into this egotistical nut who looked down upon me and tried to disprove every word I spoke!. He also said I sucked for not have read the book in question!.

It was a case where an immature kid tried so hard to act grown up--but I don't think I want to read that book if it changes people like that!.!.!.!.o_oWww@QuestionHome@Com

I read and write everyday, but just can not stand a lot of classic books!. Pride and Prejudice, for instance, I will try to avoid unless I have to read it for a class!. I suffered through The Scarlet Letter--it was punishment to read!. I just can't stand the style of writing!. I'll get bashed for this, but I think people often times glorify classics simply because they are old!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Anything written by a God is usually pretentious and overdone in the suspension of disbelief department!. I avoid them!.

Actually the Russians are excellent reads, especially Anton Chekhov and Nikolai Gogol - funny and insightful and full of the styles that THE top contributor to B&A says good writers shouldn't use!. Anna Karenina (Tolstoy) is one of the best novels written!.!.!. but that's just my opinion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I second you on War and Peace, though it popped up on a reading list for a course I have to take along with Crime and Punishment by the other Russian guy, so I suppose in a semester or two I'll have waded through them with my own unique brand of half-@ssed scholarly duty!. joy!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably Lolita!. I can't understand why it's a classic!. I know it's supposed to be really well-written and all, but I don't understand why people rave about it!. Books that sympathize with disgusting pedophiles is never going to be a top for me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
