The Scott Westerfeld books (Uglies, Pretties, etc) are dystopian fantasy (if you want the fancy teacher term for them)!. I highly recommend them as well!.

I also recommend anything by Tamora Pierce, although I recommend starting with "Alanna: The First Adventure" which is the first book she wrote in her world!.

I like Justine Larbeliester's Magic trilogy, although it got slow at points!. (the author's name is a bit mispelled, sorry)

Devilish by Maureen Johnson is great!.

Libba Bray's trilogy is good-the first book is "Great and Terrible Beauty!."

Patricia C Wrede has a 4 book series starting with "Dealing with Dragons" that's a fun read!.

If you want to give some "adult" fantasy a try, I am still comfortable recommending!.!.!.

The Xanth series by Piers Anthony (first book is "Spell for Chameleon"!.!.!.the first 13 or so books in the series are awesome, but he's still writing them and the quality is a bit questionable after "Man from Mundania"--however, I really liked everything up through that book)!.

The Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey!. Although not the first book in the chronology of the world, I think a good starting point is "Arrows of the Queen" because it was the first one she wrote in the world, and is a great starting point!.

I've taught advanced English courses in middle school and those are all books and series I've recommended to readers and parents!. None have content I would be uncomfortable with my own child reading by 6th/8th grade so I have no issue recommending them to you!.

I'm also a lifelong fan of the fantasy genre, so these are all books I've read and thought were worthwhile!. I keep up on children's and YA literature as a teacher so that I can keep my recommendations to my students as up to date as I can as well!.

And I hope you do like the Meyers books when you get around to them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The first in a series, Tales of Tanglewood melds together influences of Celtic and Irish mythology with modern-day folklore, and is a fantasy novel to be enjoyed and cherished by all ages!. Within the pages of this tome you will find the adventures of Colin, a child who is fully aware of the hidden world of myth and wonder hiding within the woods just beyond his home, long kept secret by old magic!. Only the fey magic which runs through his veins has enabled him to find what others cannot; the Tanglewood, the wood within the woods!. Full of odd characters and fey beings, the Tanglewood is a world of magnificent folklore come to life!.
