Question: Othello or Harry Potter!? Who is more tragic!.!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I think that they are both pretty much mired down in their own personal tragedies!. No!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can't really see Harry Potter as a tragic character!. Sure, he was orphaned and raised by neglectful people, but they fed him, sheltered him, and he went on to have a fabulous life!. Harry got magic, friends, a fun school, a great girlfriend, and the happily-ever-after at the end!.

Othello was more culpable than Harry, but doesn't that just make him more tragic!? He couldn't even blame someone else for his misery -- every step of the way, it was his own fault, his own guilt!. Even if he hadn't stabbed himself at the end, Othello was never going to forgive himself and know happiness again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Othello is one of the greatest plays ever written, from the pen of the greatest dramatist who ever lived!. It deals with sweeping, universal themes of jealousy, alienation and the conflict between perception and reality!.

On the other hand Harry Potter is sub-literate drivel about a boy who flies around on broomstick!. Much of its plot and almost all of its setting and characters were lifted from Lord of the Rings, the Narnia series and Terry Pratchett's Discworld books!.

It's tragic that they can be mentioned in the same paragraph, but that's about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm with Sarah!. Othello is brilliant and the drama leads inexorably to the dreadful conclusion but Othello is the villain!. He is responsible for his own misery not to mention the mental cruelty and murder of his own wife!. Harry Potter is an ordinary adolescent in extraordinary circumstances and blameless!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is nothing whatsoever about HP that can possibly be described as 'tragic'!. What do you understand the word to mean, I wonder!? HP is drivel!.
Othello !.!.!. have you actually read it!? '!.!.!.Perdition, catch my soul, but I do love thee, and when I love thee not, chaos is come again !.!.!.'
Give me a line from HP that even begins to compare with that !.!.!.
Just another bit from Othello - 'You are pictures out of doors !.!.!.bells in your parlours !.!.!.wild cats in your kitchens !.!.!.saints in your injuries !.!.!.devils being offended !.!.!. players in your housewifery!.!.!. and housewives in your beds'!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
