Question: Would it be acceptable to write about an older man and a younger woman!?
I'm writing a screenplay about a younger girl and an older guy who fall in love and later in the movie they elope!. I want to make the girl like 16 and the guy around 30!. I'm writing it with Amanda Bynes in mind for the girl and James Marsden as the guy (but of course they probably won't play it but I usually write with actors in mind for the roles) Would this be acceptable and I want it to have a happy ending where they don't break up or anything like that of course they will have problems like with her parents but nothing really major!. Be honest!. I really love honest opinions meaning don't tell me it's good when it really stinks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really resonate to this plot!. (I married a younger man, divorced him, he's now deceased, the marriage was rotten)!.

Now for the plot!. You say "!.!.!.!.problems!.!.!.!.!.but nothing really major!." If the girl is only 16 I think the problems would be major, as in statutory rape!. Perhaps you could deal with that by having them marry in a state where the legal age for a girl to marry without parental approval is 16, if there is one!.

Or you could avoid such a problem and also not make him look like a perv by concentrating on what they have in common, showing a marvellous rapport for a few years in a celibate relationship -- but with a strong physical attraction present!. He's supposed to be more mature, it's not a good idea to jump into marriage after a short time (mine is the voice of experience!) but it would be interesting to show that despite the age difference they are a good match for each other!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course it's acceptable! Just like it's acceptable to write about violence and murder and rape and all kinds of other subjects which may be unacceptable in real life!.
One of the purposes of fiction is to explore these difficult subjects, and sometimes challenge people's views and opinions!. Go for it!
But as some other people said, if there are legal matters involved make sure you do your research!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have to be really careful when approaching this topic because of statutory rape laws!. If someone turns the guy in, he can be arrested for statutory rape!. However, that could be an interesting plot point!. I think there is a Law and Order: SVU episode that deals with this!. (I am fairly sure it has Danielle Panebaker in it if you want to try and find it)!. I don't personally thing there is anything wrong with your idea, but others will, so be prepared for some harsh criticism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think it is, you can show all of the tension that surrounds them and how love doesn't care what age you are!.

andd if you're a twilighter, you know that Edward Cullen is almost a century older than Bella lol and they were made for each other!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it would be a good area to explore!. Not a lot of fiction has been written in his area so yes, you should go ahead and share with us your work!. I would love to read it sometime!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That was called Lolita!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Will it be acceptable to the general masses!? I don't know, that would depend a lot upon how you like it, but people are drawn to forbidden romance, so odds are, you'd be find!.

It would certainly be controversial, but I don't necessarily think of that as a bad thing!. Good art, and thus good film, makes you think and is not always completely acceptable to everyone!. By writing to be accepted, good writing can become atered down and diluted!.

My advice!? Write it, and if it doesn't actually come to fruition because it is not "acceptable," then at least you've still brought it into the world, it still exists, and maybe someday people will see it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Make the girl a little older, with her at 16 he's a pedophile AND it makes the plot a little harder to believe!. It goes against normal sensibilities!. Having said that, an older girl say 18 and a older guy say 30, is not really that much of a stretch!. If you really want a contrast about love and age, make a bigger age gap, make the man in his late 40's early 50's!. Or maybe you can even try making the woman older!. You know, women peak sexually later than men, so a young man with a middle aged woman could build some good sexual chemistry and you still get the contrast of age!. Hot older woman, hot younger man, that may sizzle!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
