I must admit that I prefer the classics (or what I consider to be classics) like: Kenneth Grahame's: The Wind in the Willows - always a favourite, especially reading about Toad's antics!. Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - action starts from the very first sentence!. Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden - just a good, soppy story!. C!. S!. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia - Although The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is the most famous, I particularly like The Horse and His Boy!. Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - though probably done to death by movie versions Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series of books - particularly like Little House in the Big Big Woods!. (The Little House on the Prairie television series was based on these books) If you are looking for compilation books you could do 1001 Arabian Nights, The Blue Fairy Book, Grimms Fairytales, Hans Christian Anderson!. So much good stuff out there!. Just pick something and get reading!. Your kids will love it!Www@QuestionHome@Com Depends what age/sex they are! My small grandchildren loved Giraffes can't dance by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees, it is so silly, also Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae!. Now the boys love any Thomas Tank, the youngest girl like Katie Morag stories!. The older ones like Narnia stories!. Take a trip through a good book shop you'll see 100's you like!. I sometimes have to buy one just for myself:- for example Dear Greenpeace by Simon James!. I stood and read it in the shop and laughed so much , I just had to buy it!. By grade 5 I am no longer reading TO the kids, I am discussing books with them!. I read whatever they are reading and we talk about it as they make their way through the books and after they finish!. As the kids learn to read, I try to read books that might be at their INTEREST level but are above their reading level!. In young kids there is a big gap between the number of words they can understand when they hear them and the number of words they can read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Well, cliched as it may be, the Harry Potter books are quite popular!. They loved the story, they loved the illustrations, and I read it to them over and over again !.!.!.
