I would suggest to first get an idea of what the publishing steps are!. I copied a link below from a writing site: chapteread!.comWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you try really hard and don't give up, you may get published!. You'll probably get a lot of rejections at first because that's how tough the publishing world is!. There are many options for you!. You could either write directly to publishers or write to literary agents who will get you published!. An agent is probably your best bet!. Here's a website that could help with that: http://ezinearticles!.com/!?How-To-Get-A-N!.!.!.

When you're searching for an agent try: http://www!.agentquery!.com/default!.aspx

If you're worried about being tricked, this website offers great advice on what to watch out for: http://www!.sfwa!.org/Beware/

If you want to read about another young person who got their book pubished, here's info on Nancy Yi Fan, who got a publisher at the age of 12: http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Nancy_Yi_Fa!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's absolutely possible, but you're absolutely right that it is very easy to get scammed, especially when you're young and inexperienced!. First, get an agent!. Unsolicited manuscripts (manuscripts submitted to publishers without agent representation) get thrown in the slush pile almost immediately!. Real agents have no up front fees like reading fees, and charge a standard 30% of all earnings from your writing!. An agent invests time in you expecting to be paid off by smart business sense!. A real agent that believes in you will not charge fees!. also, the same goes with publishers!. Some literary magazines charge miniscule reading fees, but if you are getting charged to publish your novel, chances are you are looking at a false publishing house that doesn't bother to screen novels and makes all of its money from reading fees!. That said, the vast majority of the market is honest people trying to get good literature published, and although it is certainly an uphill battle, with good writing, a good attitude, and resolve you can absolutely get there!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unfortunately, the harsh realities of the publishing world can, for some, come as a terribly cruel shock!.

Meeting the Publisher's Requirements

Creativity is, of course, a vital ingredient but even the most gifted writer will fail in their bid to achieve publication if they are unable to fulfil certain criteria!. For example, the majority of mainstream newspaper and magazine editors expect to be able to contact you via both fax and email and the non-fiction articles and features you write for them to:

be computer-produced in double-line spacing
be written to the specified length
cover previously-agreed subject matter
have a beginning, middle and an end
arrive by an agreed deadline!.
Fiction for magazines should be typewritten, preferably on a PC, in double-line spacing on one side only of A4 white paper!. On acceptance, you may well be asked to re-submit the story via e-mail or possibly on disk!.

Creative writers who are prepared to comply with these criteria stand a much greater chance of finding markets for their work than those who never consider the practical requirements of writing for publication!.

Finding the Right Market

The following magazines usually welcome good, reliable contributors:

club
company 'in-house'
religious
school
special interest!.
Useful market information, advice on writing techniques and news of developments in the publishing world can be found in a number of writing magazines and on the Internet!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I suggest seriously talking it over with your parents, and if you are really into getting it published you will probably want to get a book agent!. Then go to a local book publisher (local ones seem to be cheaper!.!.!.)!. If they want to publish it, then great! If they don't, then don't be discouraged, just ask around with other book publishers!. But make sure you have an adult with you on this because, like you said, you may get tricked if you do it alone since you're only 13!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Getting it published means getting someone to sign
a contract to buy it!.
When you finish it, before you submit it to publishers, take a 'poor mans copyright'!. Main a copy of the MS!. and a list of those to whom you intend to submit it to yourself by registered mail return receipt!.
Don't open the sealed package when you get it!.
It serves as dated proof that the work is yours!.
If a publisher likes it he may offer to buy it!.
Probably not for much for a first time author!.
You can't sign a contract!.
A parent or guardian must do so for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

mail a copy of the manuscript to yourself (but mail it so you have to sign for it) so if they steal it you can sue them for copy right because you have proof you had it before them!. im also 13 and writing a book you should email me the first couple of pages and ill email the first couple of mine

im not lying here is the first paragraph!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well you could try writer's market you can easily locate new up-to-date markets for publishing your work, get expert "insider" advice, and track your manuscript submissions and publishing contractsWww@QuestionHome@Com

you should get a professional to help or someone with experience, but if its good enough and is corrected and drafted right!. and has a good plot/story line i think you could probably get it published!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, but first you need to get an editor and stuff- even best selling authors didn't get their manuscripts looked at for a long time!. But it is definitely possible! Good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com
