The Queen of the Damned, hands down!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Bonfire of the Vanities (released Christmas 1990) was probably the worst adaptation of a book in the last several decades!. The book was extremely popular!. It was sarcastic, nasty, clever, insightful and fun to read!. Many people felt that it was so vivid that reading it was like watching a movie!. The movie was overblown, turgid, boring, and almost unwatchable!.
The movie is an almost legendary story about how a lot of talented people (actors, directors, and screenwriters) given a huge budget could make such a terrible movie out of such a popular book!. The biggest problem seemed to be that the main character, Sherman McCoy, is an extremely unlovable self-absorbed awful human being!. He is a real slime of a human being!. Most of the characters in the book are also ego-inflated bombastic personalities, too self absorbed to care anything about the truly innocent!. The movie cast one of the most likeable actors in existence, Tom Hanks, in the lead role!.
Read the book, and watch the movie if you enjoy train wrecks!.

Actually your question is for the worst movie based on a novel!. It doesn't specify if the novel was good!. Battlefield Earth is one of the worst movies based on a novel of all time, but the novel is pretty putrid also!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love James Bond movies as kinda mindless action movie entertainment but really, the books are so much better than the movies!.

The very worst movie based on a book though would have to be Congo!. The book is actually very interesting and a good read!. The movie was horrible!. If I was Crichton, I would have been very disapointed by that treatment of my book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Harry Potter Series was done pretty crap!. So was Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (the best bit was the Dolphins)!.!.!.!. um, I couldn rant forever, the only REALLY welldone novel to movie was Lord of the Rings, it was missing bits and plotlines, but for one of the most complex series written the movie was amazing!. Wow, I answered your question in reverse!. sorryWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think it would have to be War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy!.
The book itself was fantastic, but the movie was a little on the cheesy side!. I hope that doesn't happen to the Twilight Series :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Clan of the Cave Bear" - I had no desire to read such an awful book!. Finally, I did read it - I loved the book and read the next three!. This had to be one of the worst movies ever made!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
