I would not call it overrated!. It is certainly not the height of literature, but it is very good and very good for its audience!. Any series that gets its fans that worked up, is a good thing!.

'Harry Potter' as a book does have some redeeming features, such as it has encouraged many to read, mainly children but also adults have read it too!.

'Harry Potter' as a film also more or less encourages others to read the book after seeing the film (if they haven't read the book before watching the film)!.

But beyond this 'Harry Potter' is definitely overrated!. There are many more brilliant authors out there, like the not-really-heard of Robin Jarvis, who has written some excellent books!. 'Tales from the Wyrd Museum' are my favourite:

I think it's all down to personal choice!.

I love fantasy but find these books rather childish and too simplistic for my tastes!. Yet I admire the series for encouraging young people to read and making reading more attractive!.

I much prefer the films, which is rare for me!. Normally I would much rather read and use my imagination than have images spoon-fed to me!.

So the short answer is, in my opinion the Harry Potter books are overrated for adults but not children, whereas the films are good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no its an extremely creative and well written series!.!.!. i dont even like reading, ive probably read like 10 real books cover to cover in the last 10 years and 7 of them were harry potter!.

i do think the movies are overrated though, cept the first one which was the only good hp movie in my opinion

Yes!. But I'm not saying this because I hate HP!. On the contrary I'm a HP fan, I've got the whole set of books, I love it!. But I gotta admit that people get worked up about it too much!. I mean, look at the book launches!. I'm not the one to go to a bookstore in the middle of the night just for a book that I could easily get the next day!. I mean, I got Deathly Hallows a couple of days after it came out!. And the movies are seriously overrated, the last installment was just sh*t!.
