Position:Home>Books & Authors> It's summertime and I've reached that inevitable boredome. Any good read

Question: It's summertime and I've reached that inevitable boredome!. Any good reads to suggest for a bored teenager!?
Yes, a week ago, I was wishing to be in this very position- sitting around, with absolutely nothing to do!. But as it is, I find myself not knowing what to do with myself!. Being summertime, friends are hard to get together seeing as how everyone is vacationing, and swimming, water games, sports, etc!. are kind of a "been-there-done-that" kind of thing for me!. What I'm really looking for is a good book/series for a 17 year old girl who is up for almost anything (that isn't Star Wars/Halo-esque) and has a good plot, characters with depth, and general fun!. I have a wide range- Fantasy like Harry Potter, Twilight, & Sweep series to medical and sci-fi thrillers like Michael Crichton!.

I've heard Host by Stephenie Meyer is good and I know there's a vast world of books waiting to be read!. Any suggestions!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you like interesting books read House Of Leaves by Mark Z!. Danielewski

A really good book that is fantasy is the Sabriel series written by Garth Nix the other two books are Lirael and Abhorsen!. Those books are great!.

I would not recommend Twilight, I am sorry I know a lot of people love it but unless you are up for a teenage love triangle meant for middle schoolers then don't read it!.

Harry Potter is a great book love it!.

Horror-Stephen King The Cell is a great book I was hooked on it!.

Those are a lot of great books that I loved, tell me if you read any of them and like them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Society of S by Susan Hubbard is good!. The House of Night series is excellent, it starts with Marked!. I'm currently reading book 1 of the Morganville Vampires, which is called Glass Houses!. Poison Study by Maria V!. Snyder is also really good!. I read constantly and could recommend a ton more, but I think these will be a good start!. By the way, the Star Wars sequels/prequels are also very good, but the above books are all fantasy and vampire fiction!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"100 Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez!. You have to be a rather sophisticated, intelligent person to appreciate it, but it's brilliant!.

I'd consider starting with James Michener

Michener's major books include Tales of the South Pacific (for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948), Hawaii, The Drifters, Centennial, The Source, The Fires of Spring, Chesapeake, Caribbean, Caravans, Alaska, Texas, and Poland!. His nonfiction works include his 1968 Iberia about his travels in Spain and Portugal, his 1992 memoir The World is My Home, and Sports in America!.

Carribean, the Covenant, and Texas are my favorites!.!.I liked Centennial!.!.!.Poland was good but not great!.!.!. I'm told The Source is his most popular book!.

Moslty he wrote sweeping sagas, covering the lives of many generations in a particular geographic locale and incorporating historical facts into the story as well!. You see people come to an area, see their lives, their loves, their adventures, see their kids, and their grandkids get born, live, grow, have kids of their own, and die!. You follow whole families as they grown and change!.!.!.!.you care about the carachters as you really get to know them!.!.!. and there is lots of romance and adventure too!.!.!.also learn a lot about a place that way!.!.!.when I moved to Texas I used Michener's TEXAS as my textbook!.

C!.S!. Lewis is always a recomendation as well!. He did the Narnia books, of course, but also the Great Divorce!.!.!. which is not about a divorce but about a bunch of people in Hell who get to take a bus trip up to Heaven for a visit!.!.!.(spoiler hint!.!.!.NONE of them like it very much!.!.!.) it's my favorite one of his books!.

also there is Doctor Zhivago, which my sister's LOVED!.!.!.!.though it left me cold!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

His inner goodness and common sense enable him to muddle through and he has some help from a couple of humans and some dwarfs!. In the second book, Eldest, the dwarfs, elves, humans, Eragon, and Saphira have joined forces against evil!. Eragon and Saphira have begun training to understand and improve their skills!. A new, red dragon makes an appearance!. I've been told that in the third book a golden dragon will appear!. It has just been announced that the third book, Brisingr, will be available on September 20, 2008!. Originally planned as a trilogy, Paolini has recently decided that there will be four books in his Inheritance Cycle!.

John Beachem:
Storms of Vengeance is John's first novel and I've been told that it is part of a series of 8 to 10 books!. There is a murder mystery to be solved!. Who did it and why!? There is a mythical Lorradda Stone to locate!. There are three parallel stories as we follow the actions of three different groups of people!. There are also some ogres, two elves, several sorcerers, a troll, and one very impressive river monster!. The book ends with a cliff hanger!. One reason that young people gave for liking Harry Potter was the detail in the stories!. They will find plenty of detail here as well!. The title of the second book in the series will be The Hunter and the Marked!.

David Eddings:
There are three stories in Volume I of The Belgariad: Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, and Magician's Gambit!. Volume II of The Belgariad has two stories: Castle of Wizardry and Enchanters' End Gambit!. If you are looking for grand adventure and plenty of detail it is here!. Some may object to the slow progression and limited action of this tale!. A sorcerer and his daughter, a sorceress, have gathered together a group of individuals to fight evil!. It seems that the particular make-up for this group is necessary based upon an ancient prophecy!. The group includes: the Nimble Thief, the Man with Two Lives, the Blind Man, the Dreadful Bear, the Knight Protector, the Horse Lord, the Bowman, the Queen of the World, and the Mother of the Race that Died!. A young boy named Garion, who was raised by his Aunt Pol, is caught up in all of this, though he doesn't know why!. But then, is she really his Aunt!? There is so much detail that I have not as yet confirmed there are no mistakes in the mapping of the story!. I thoroughly enjoyed The Belgariad and look forward to reading the sequel, The Mallorean!.
