Question: As an author, would you recommend!.!.!.!?
Inventing a town that doesn't exist, or writing about an existing town that I've never been to!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mix them!. Have a town with a made up name then base it off a town that you've never been to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that you can use both of those methods successfully!. It's a lot harder to use a real town though, especially one you've never been to before because if you want to have the character see something specific or go somewhere or something involving the location then you have to make sure that you're not making anything up about that, you have to research it and sometimes even go to that town to find out about it!. I recommend either using a place you've been to and know well or making up a town but using a real state!. hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My books have been set in: a large city (Chicago) that I had not visited prior to writing the story, a small city (Dublin, Ohio) that I knew well but partially fictionalized in order to make it seem smaller and more charming, and a made-up small town in central Texas!.

They all can work!. Go with your gut!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it would be more fun to write about a town that does not exist!. No one could sue you for defamation of character or libel! Aside from the suing thing, you could make up all sorts if interesting things about a town that does not exist!. Have you ever seen the Sci Fi Channel show "Eureka"!? That town does not exist!. yes, there are tows called Eureka, but the town in the Eureka TV series, does not!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The former!. You are able to build it from the ground up (obviously) and don't have to worry about whether or not you are historically, ethnically, and culturally correct regarding the setting!. Even cities as close together as Boston-New York-Philadelphia are radically different places!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Inventing a town all though it would be harder because you would have to describe not ownly the setting but the people and the weather you could have more freedom with your charactors and plot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I say invienting a town that doesnt exist!. I think thats more fun and you could do more of hat your imaginations tells you to do!. Haha, its fun to play around withWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think you would be better off inventing a town that doesn't exist!.
And for some advise, try to make it scary and very different from any other well Known cities!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would personally invent a town!. Then, I could make it to my liking, but still realistic!. My favorite is Derry, Maine, from Stephen King's booksWww@QuestionHome@Com

I would rather write about a town that does not exist, it would be much funner ^^Www@QuestionHome@Com
