because Jane Austen writes books so thats like a play on wordsWww@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Yes, it is a pun!. To take a leaf out of someone's book means to follow their example--and it becomes a pun when that someone writes books themselves filled with leaves/pages!.Www@QuestionHome@Com No, not really!. A pun is when you use a word that could mean one thing, but you use it to mean another thing in a humorous context, or you juxtapose two words so that they sound like they could have two different meanings!. I don't know that "take a leaf" means anything at all, much less means something other than how you're using it here!. A pun has to have one clear meaning, but it *could* have another meaning as well!. It's a clever play on words so that what is said *just might* mean two differen things!. Here's an example of a pun: "If a VIP is asked to take a back seat at the special event, he may take affront!." It's a pun because the word "affront" also sounds like "a front," as in "a front seat!." Another one: "The rumor that only strained orange juice is healthy was a good example of pulp fiction!." A pun because "pulp" refers to the pulp strained out of the orange juice, even though it is technically being used to mean "just a bunch of hooey" in this sentence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Yes!. That's a pun!. : )Www@QuestionHome@Com |
