The Iliad is set during the later part of the Trojan war, after the Greeks have been beseigin Troy for many years!. The Trojan war started because Paris, son of the King of Troy, eloped with Helen, wife of King Meneleus of Sparta!. The Greeks have been beseiging Troy ever since!.

it begins with the Greek army dyin gof plague in large numbers!. It turns out this is because King Agamemnon has stole Chryseis, the daughter of the priest Chryses, and he is persauded to return her!. He then steal Briseis, a girl who belongs to Achilles!. Achilles is furious and goes back to his ship with his men and sits on the beach and sulks and refuses to fight!. He asks his mother, the nymph Thetis, to go to Olympus and ask Zeus, the King of the gods, to help the Trojans to defeat Agamemnon's soldiers!. She does, so , and huge numbers of Agamemnon's men are killed!. Eventually Achilles's beloved companion, Patroklus, is killed in battle,by Hector, the son of King Priam, and Achilles is persuaded by his mother Thetis to return to the battle!.

Achilles kills Hector!. Instead of allowing him to be returned for decent burial, Achilles, furious over the death of Patroklus, taunts the Trojans by tying Hector's body to the back of his chariot and dragging it behind him as he drives his chariot around Troy every morning!. In the end, King Priam of Troy comes to Achilles and begs for the return of his son, and Achilles relents and lets him have Hector's body for burial!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
