Question: Dr Chasuble - The Importance Of Being Earnest!?!?
Is there anyone who is a die-hard fan [maybe] or is very familiar with Oscar Wilde's 'The Importance Of Being Earnest' !?
And if so, are you familiar with the marginalised character Dr Chasuble!?
My assignment for english is to perform a monologue on Dr Chasuble and his views on an event in the play, and so far i have very little ideas about how i should do it/how he would act!.
Ive seen the movie and read the script/book, but my creative juices are just not flowing!.!.!.any help!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I played Lady Bracknell about two years ago, so I'm familiar with the play!.
As for how you should act as Dr!. Chasuble, he's a character that can legitimately be played in many different ways - although I know that's no help to you!
I see him primarily as bewildered - by the odd behavior of those at the country home, and by the strange requests of Algernon and Jack, by the flirting and hints about marriage of Miss Prism!. But I also see him as a man who takes his calling seriously!. He wants to help those in need, even when their requests seem nonsensical; he observes the propieties of behavior but is forgiving of the failings of others; he wants to be instructive (and has a tendency to be show-offish about his knowledge and education)!.
So I would play him as somewhat jumpy and nervous, but genuinely warmhearted, with precise and clipped speech patterns and quick gestures!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dr!. Chasuble is the one character that was totally about doing the moral or correct thing in any social situation!. Have him talk about how Miss Prism is the misunderstood person and have him find a way to blame the bag, the railway, Ernest, Cecily or anyone for his poor Miss Prism making the mistake!. Have him stroll up and down while gesturing and make sure he nods his head before he points!. Hope you have fun with this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
