Question: Writing a novel - Random question!?
This is possibly going to sound like an odd question, but I need a bit of information on a book I'm writing!.!.!.

If someone were to fall unconscious while underwater, would they need to become sentient again in order to expel any inhaled water out of their lungs!? Considering that respiratory CPR was performed!.

I can't seem to find an answer for this one!.!.!.

And yes, this is in Books & Authors because I'm not 100% sure where else to put it =P

Thanks in advance!

I think you mean 'conscious' rather than 'sentient', but the answer is probably not, cause once a person becomes unconscious they usually just start breathing again (which is why people drown rather than asphyxiate under water, cause if they held their breath and just went unconscious they'd asphyxiate, but drowning is from water in the lungs, cause they'd hold their breath, go unconscious, then when they go unconscious the body automatically starts breathing again and they breathe in water)!. However, in general, if CPR has started them breathing again, they'll start coughing up water and becoming conscious at the same time!. It's *technically* not necessary for them to become conscious, but it's usually the way it happens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

okay, I think I know what you're asking!. If you became unconscious while underwater, and in doing so you inhaled water into your lungs, you would have to be conscious to expel the water from you lungs!. I think of it like this: in movies, you never see an unconscious person pulled from the water choking and coughing!. Nope, they have CPR performed on them and when they start coughing and sputtering they are conscious again or waking up!. I don't have any hard eveidence to back this up, so if that is what you need, i suggest posting in a different section or searching on google for the mechanics of drowning, as morbid as that sounds!. I hope you figure it out, an I hope this helped!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

They would have to be aware enough to expell the water from their lungs but most sink right back into unconsciousness!. Hope this helped!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You question should be health category or in Swimming!. There are those categories if you search!.
