his books will be AWESOME!.!.!. until the ending!. all the books i've read by him, so far, have rocked but the endings are always horrible!! it's like he gives up at the end of each book!! anyone have a different opinion about this or do you feel the same!? any book suggestions by king that are actually good beginning to end!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
His early books are some of his best!. By the time he got around to "It" and "The Tommyknockers" and "Needful Things," his writing had deteriorated to a lazy morass of mangled verbage in need of a better-than-average editor!.

His best books, from start to finish, in my opinion, are:

The Dead Zone (you'll want a tissue at the end!. The movie was also good, for a change)

The Shining

The Stand (I prefer the "short" 1978 version although the long version is fine)

The Eyes of the Dragon

Cycle of the Werewolf (the movie, "Silver Bullet," isn't great but it will keep your attention, and it shows up on cable fairly often so you won't even have to pay to rent it)

The Green Mile (another excellent movie)Www@QuestionHome@Com

He does it because he can, because readers still continue to buy his books! Hes not worried as hes made millions on his books not only from his devoted readers but other people as well!. I do agree though that some of his earlier books are much better!.!.!. From what I gather most the time he will start writing with only a topic in mind, he will have no idea how the story will end!. He will start writing and will allow the story to grow on its own!. Perhaps when he got hit by that car yrs back , he lost some of his direction *L*Www@QuestionHome@Com

A lot of his books are about control, and writers losing control - maybe it's a psychological thing - he has control over his readers by drawing them in, and then right at the end it's an almost emotional letdown!. Maybe it's his conscious, or subconscious, way of jerking our strings!. Frankly I think King has some serious issues!.!.!. but I still love his work!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh my gosh!.!.!.I *totally* agree with you, I've actually argued about this with people for years now!. It's like he has these brilliant stories, but then gets writers block about how to end it so just throws some stupid thing on the end!.

I was even just answering a question about how horrible the ending to "IT" was!. It has to be the absolute WORST ending to any book EVER!. What is with that whole giant spider/whale thing!? And the way the kids "defeat" the monster was the little girl had to have sex with all of her friends!? A childhood gang bang!.!.!. I'm sorry, but WTF!? Stephen King had to be smoking crack to write that ending!.

His older novels are OK, (Salem's Lot, The Shining, etc!.) but the newer ones!.!.!.awful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree occasionally he hits a sour note!. Duma Key didn't exactly rock my world!. But I don't believe ALL of his endings are that way!. How can you say that about books like Carrie and Misery!? I think that there is definitely a pre and post accident Stephen King and it shows in the books!. Pre accident were better!. But then also remember that drugs and alcohol were involved back then, too!. Pax-CWww@QuestionHome@Com

I used to be a huge SK fan!. Read everything he wrote, right up until the last of the "Gunslinger" series was published!. What he id at the end of that series!.!.!.!. not just one book but a whole freaking searies!.!.!. he's!.!.!.

If the bastard were crossing the street in front of me!.!.!.

!.!.!.let's just say they wouldn't find any skid marks on the ground before his body!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Dark Tower was a miserable ending!. They finally get to the Dark Tower, only to have to start all the way back to the beginning from The Gunslinger!. But I admire the man for not caring about what his fans think!. We need more writers like that and not writers like coughtRowlingcough!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Have you ever thought that maybe you're the onbe getting bored with his work!?
Or maybe you just failed to recognize the fact that the ending is usually where the conflict is solved, so there's no "action" or anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He does it eveytime, which is why I switched to Dean Koontz!. His books are awesome, and some of the endings are the best I have ever read!. Give him a try: read the book Watchers or From the Corner of His Eye!. Great endings!.!.!.!. xDWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'm sure his endings are there for a purpose!. You don't write a six hundred page book just to get to the end and say, ahhh screw itWww@QuestionHome@Com

I read all of Stephen King's books and I agree, particularly about Duma Key!. Go back and read some of his earlier works like Carrie, or Pet Semetary!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

he says in interviews that he writes bad endings!.

that's why sometime times the movies have different endings, he thinks of something better or someone else does!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is the subliminal horror of it all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"The Shining" and "The Stand!." Of course, he wrote those over 30 years ago!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well I am not you, but I think Rose Red is a good book from start to finish!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some writers just don;t know how to end a story, and Mr!. King is one of themWww@QuestionHome@Com

Given 'em what they want!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

yeah!.!.!.I think he does that on purpose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

he's just twistedWww@QuestionHome@Com

he is a lazy person and knows he's already Rich why should he do anything moreWww@QuestionHome@Com
