Question: In the Handmaid's Tale, why is the ownership of others commonplace!? What does the outcome of the novel prove!?
I have to write a 5 page argumentative essay on The Handmaid's Tale!. Our handout sheet on the essay says that throughout the novel, many of the characters vie for power and control of others!. Some of the questions on the sheet are Why is ownership of others commonplace!? What does the outcome of the novel prove!? How does gender play a major role in the positioning of certain characters!? The assignment requires us to write an argumentative essay that engages the theme of power in the primary text!.
If anyone has any good ideas on this, please feel free to email me or answer me on here because I really need some help!!
Thanks!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Obviously, I can't give you any fleshed out ideas on this, but some thoughts!.!.!.

Why is ownership of others commonplace!? Women have been reduced from individuals to commodities!. A fertile woman is a valuable thing rather than a person!. So owning her is more acceptable than allowing something that valuable to walk around on her own!.

What does the outcome of the novel prove!? The epilogue is really powerful, to me!. After reading this book and feeling so sympathetic to the heroine and wanting for her to escape so badly, reading the cold analysis of the historians was shocking!. They were willing to dismiss her misery and validate the dehumanizing society of Galilee (!?)!. Then, when they make clear that everything done in that country is being done right now throughout the world, you realize how willing we are to accept female oppression throughout the world under the name of cultural diversity!.

How does gender play a major role in the positioning of vertain characters!? Sorry, that questions really vague!. You could write almost anything on there!. Gender is central in the position of every character!.

Good luck on your essay!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
