Question: In what sense is the character from Green Eggs and Ham similar to Bartleby the Scrivener!?
The character in question is not named in the book but he is featured opposite of Sam I Am!. Do you think Dr!. Seuss got his inspiration, in some way, from Melville's short story!? I would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this matter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I haven't heard of Bartleby being an inspiration for Green Eggs and Ham, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that was the case!.

As for the similarity between them (Bartleby and the "I will not eat them" character), it is that they are both best known for saying what they DON'T want to do, without expressing any alternative!. A big difference is that the "I will not eat them" guy eventually loosened up, but Bartleby didn't and ended up dying from it because in the end he just preferred not to do anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
