Question: Right now I'm very big on fantasy books, does anyone know of any good ones to read!?
I'm very big on vampires, weres (wolves, leopards, etc!.), faeries, etc!. I've read all of the Laurell K!. Hamilton books already, I'm waiting for the new Karen Marie Moning in the Fever series, waiting for the new Stephenie Meyer in Twilight series, I love The Host, and I've read a lot more that I can't even think of at the moment, but books along those lines!. Can anyone help!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I have to agree with the others though I personally find Gaiman, though a great storyteller, is not what I would call a great writer!. He's more at home with his Sandman comics!. American Gods would work better as a comic, Neverwhere's main characters were too stubborn for my liking!. I however greatly recommend Stardust, though!. It's a, quoting Mr Gaiman, a fairy tale for adults!. That's a very accurate description of Stardust!. Coraline is fine too but it's aimed towards kids!. Some can't take that!.

The Eddingses write good storylines but the dialogs leave a lot of room for improvement to the point that they get annoying!. If dialogs don't affect you that much, I recommend the Redemption of Althalus!.

My personal favorite is Gemmell's later works, especially the individual titles: Morningstar, Echoes of the Great Song, Knights of the Dark Renown and so on!. They're in the heroic fantasy genre and the very best thing is that the characters in these novels are so real that you feel sad parting with them at the end of the books!. None of those squeaky clean heroes and super evil villains, either!.

I tried Phillip Pullman but I can't stand his writing!. I have a feeling that people say it's good merely because they like the movie!. And for books written for kids, I can't say I'm impressed with the underlying not-to-subtle messages!.

LotR is really good if you have the patience to read it!. It's not for everybody, unfortunately!. The Hobbit is infinitely easier to read!. But again, the language used is obviously meant for younger readers!.

The first part of the Harry Potter's series is good but the later part stinks of doing-it-for-the-money!. Especially the Order of Phoenix!. God, I wanted to burn that book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

also look for the Dragonlance series and Forgotten Realms series, both of which are authored by several people about the same respective worlds!.

If you want vampires and werewolves, you will love the Ravenloft books!. Same as Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms, it is authored by many people, but takes place in a more horror world than a fantasy one!.

have fun!

The Chronicles of Narnia by C!.S!. Lewis
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/The_Chronic!.!.!.
The Chronicles of Narnia present the adventures of children who play central roles in the unfolding history of the fictional realm of Narnia, a place where animals talk, magic is common, and good battles evil!. Each of the books (with the exception of The Horse and His Boy) features as its protagonists children from our world who are magically transported to Narnia, where they are called upon to help the lion Aslan handle a crisis in the world of Narnia !.

Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Inheritance!.!.!.
Fifteen year-old Eragon discovers his destiny as a Dragon Rider!. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and his dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds!.

Uglies Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld
http://www!.scottwesterfeld!.com/books/ugl!.!.!.
UGLIES trilogy follows the high-tech adventures of Tally Youngblood!. As an ugly, then a pretty, and finally a special, Tally works to take down a society created to function with perfect-looking people who never have a chance to think for themselves!.

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

Lyra and Will, children from different worlds, share two common bonds, the loss of parents and the possession of objects which give them unique access to knowledge!. Forgotten Realms books by R!. A!. Salvatore
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Forgotten_R!.!.!.
There is no easy way to summarize these books, the scope is just too large!. Best I can do is say they are full of adventure, elves, magic, and alternate worlds!. Once you start reading these you will find yourself hooked!.

Dragon Riders of Pern by Anne Mcaffery
http://www!.iblist!.com/series130!.htm
Anne Mcaffery is one of those authors whose books just leave you feeling good once you read the last page!. While a combination of Sci-fi and Fantasy (the argument continues about which one it is) they sit on my fantasy shelf!. Anyone who has ever dreamed of riding a dragon should read these!.

Xanth Series by Piers Anthony
http://www!.amazon!.com/Xanth-nbsp-Series/!.!.!.
Fun series full of fantastic creatures, a unique world and a magic system based on puns!. Yes I said puns! These are a light read and funny as heck (by the rules of the Adult Conspiracy if I say the other word really bad things will happen!.)

Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey
http://www!.mercedeslackey!.com/biblio_ser!.!.!.
This is a large collection and every book in it is excellent!. The concept of being *chosen* by a companion, which is essentially a telepathic horse with amazing powers, is delightful!. Once chosen you become one of the elite heralds, protectors of the realm!. Start with Arrows of the Queen!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
