MIchael Connelly's Harry Bosch series is excellent!. It begins with The Black Echo!. There are about a dozen or so and a new one comes out this fall!. If you love detective fiction, go back and read Raymond Chandler and my personal favorite Dashiell Hammett!. I love that hardcore 40's Detective Noir fiction!.
