Shakespeare didn't specify what the susbstance was--he just described it as "a dram of poison"!.
As to whether he made it up or not, you'd have to do some research on that!. I know that the technology wasn't too advanced back then, and there were rules of how you could touch a corpse (particularly a woman), so there may have been some chemical to make you appear dead!.
Good luck though :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not a drink and there is no name for it, not even in the play!. It is just some mysterious potion that Shakespeare introduced!.

No herbs or drink can feign death!. Romeo could have drank one of many potions!. Since his potion killed him, it could be almost anything!. Chlorine, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the priest grows herbs and he has one that he gave to juliet so she would go into a deep sleep!.

Romeo went to that one other guy i forget his name and got the poison!.

go to sparknotes and they will probably tell youWww@QuestionHome@Com

Shakespeare made it up!. There isn't a poison that you can drink and actually die, then come back to life a few days later!. It's fake!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think Shakespeare just made it up, I don't think he says what Juliet drinks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
