Question: Is 'Great Expectations' (Charles Dickens) a book appropriate for the 5th grade!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No!. It's much too hard, and the vocabulary is pretty tough, too!. In addition, there is tough language, since it was written so far ago!. Finally, there are many twists and turns in the plot that would be far beyond the average fifth graders comprehension!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. It is long and it's bound to bore the young reader to tears, not only because of the vocabulary and pacing, but also because of many situations that a reader that young will not likely be able to understand!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Goodness, I didn't read that book till the 10th grade I believe!. I might have read it back in 7th or 8th and I found it complicated!.

Unless the kid is in WAY advance reading!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure!.!.!. I don't remember reading that book for school until 10th grade!.!.!. I don't know if a 5th grader could handle the themes and and depth of the novelWww@QuestionHome@Com

I read it as an adult and found it boring I think it would likely kill a 5th grader!. Try the Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
