Question: Hidden identity!?
hi, i am writing a book some of you suggested i chagned a persons name when i told you the details of a book and i was worried about sueing!. I am going to change the names so thanks for that!. But the thing i have to ask now is!.!. I want to put in loving memory of a certain person on the inside front cover but they have the same surname as the person im writing about, would this be enough evidence for them to prove to the court i wrote about them even though it does not mention there real name in the book what so ever!. do you understand!? (i have to keep events as they happened in real life but the person im writing about would have no evidence of the events so cant take me to court for that)Www@QuestionHome@Com

No,as long as you have changed the first name they cannot sue you!.
For example, their are so many people with the surname Jones so even if it appeared in the loving memory and as a character they could never prove it was the person attempting to sue you!.
However,if they have a REALLY uncommon surname then it would probably be obvious, but they still couldn't sue you as you have changed the first name and so,respected their privacy in doing so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You'd really need to ask the publisher for the legal stance on that but I can't see it being a problem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
