Question: A question about Harry's first task in The Goblet of Fire (spoilers)!?
Ok, so Harry and Hermione get all clever and get the summoning charm sussed out!. Moody, being the cunning wizard he is, helps Harry think of using the summoning charm to get his Firebolt!. Sirus was going to tell Harry to give the dragon conjunctivitis for heaven's sake!. First thing Harry does when he faces the dragon is summon his Firebolt and spend the next few minutes ducking and dodging, feinting and manouvering!.!.!. WHY THE HELL DIDN'T HE JUST SUMMON THE GOLDEN EGG!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have to agree with jamessir!. I can't imagine the dragon sitting idly by while one of its eggs floats off toward HP!. At the least, it would snatch it with a claw / paw or in its mouth!. It *does* lead you to an interesting strategy, though!.!.!.!.
What if each of the eggs was Accio'd in turn!. The dragon, desperate to regain each egg as it left, might well have all limbs occupied by the real eggs, at which point the golden egg could be Accio'd!. The problem - some of the real eggs might be damaged during the dragon's efforts to save them!. Still, seems like a pretty safe strategy!.!.!.!.

Even if he did just summon the egg I don't think he would get it that easily!. This is a mother dragon were talking about and shes not going to let her child slip away that easily!. She would probly guard it from flying away into Harry's arms!. (Think about an over protective mom lol) And if he did just summon the egg, he wouldn't get many points now would he!? Besides getting the egg, the judges were also looking at how you got the egg!. Krum got top points, if I remeber correctly, because he struck the dragon at it's weak point (its eye)!. The judges were looking for technique also!. Just summoning the egg would have seen juvenile!. But the biggest reason why I think no one just summoned the egg, was because no one thought of it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
maybe there is a charm on it so he can't summon it!. There is also the chance that it was hard to wave his wand and summon it with the dragon right on his tail!. I think it might be hard to steer a broom and cast a spell to get something to come to you while a dragon is trying to seriously hurt you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
lol, good question!. My guess is that the egg is enchanted or that there is some sort of rule that says that they can't use direct magic to retrieve the egg!. So they can enchant themselves and the things around them, but not the egg itself!. That would seem logical, otherwise it would be way to easy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think whoever planned the event thought of that!. It would be too easy, especially since the Triwizard Tournament was supposed to be extremely difficult!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
