It's almost as though it disrupts the rhymth of my writing to be hearing the rhythm of a song!. I wish I could, I feel like it should be an inspiration, but I really just can't!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It depends on what I'm writing!. I like listening to rock with sometimes dark lyrics because I like writing dark stories and poems!. Other than that, if it's a fantasy or fanfiction I like listening to just soft trance like Robert Miles and maybe some love songs if I write a romance!. It's all about my mood!. also I love listening to the Lord of the Rings soundtracks!. I have two of them on my computer so that's a lot of great music to listen to without lyrics!.Www@QuestionHome@Com If not quiet, then I like stuff that relates to the mood of the story!. When I was working on Gunpowder Plot stuff, I listened to madrigals--Orlando diLasso, William Byrd, Henry Purcell, etc!. When I'm working on my WW1 novel I listen to Tchaikovsky, Bela Bartok, Stravinsky, early swing jazz, etc!. Working on my late-'70s novel, I'm listening to Elvis Costello, Warren Zevon, Bruce Springsteen, etc!. I find that that sort of thing helps me get into the mood of the piece--but it really works best for historical fiction; I'm not sure how well it'd do for fantasy or scifi!. Worth a shot, though!Www@QuestionHome@Com I usually don't!.!.!. However, when I do, I listen to classical because then I can't sing along!. There was this one time I was listening to a Carrie Underwood album and I found myself typing the lyrics to one of her songs lol!. My head is so full of words and images, music distracts rather than adds!.
