Why do people compare Twilight to Harry Potter?

Question: Why do people compare Twilight to Harry Potter!?

They are completly different!!! And no offense, it seems to be coming from the Twilight fanbase!. I have never heard of a Harry Potter fan comparing a Harry Potter book to Twilight!. When will it end!? Why is there this constant fighting between these to series that share nothing in common!? Just because a book has vampires does not give it the right to be compared to a whole fantasy series!. Why is there this constant fighting of which series will be bigger and more successful!? In my opinion, Twilight can never be bigger than Harry Potter!. I will never see kids walking around in Edward costumes!. I will never see a Twilight Theme Park!. And why do some people only consider Harry Potter a childrens book and Twilight a "young adult novel"!. Harry Potter contains more symbolism and a much more intricate story line than Twilight does!.

Because both of them are really popular YA novels that have a lot of fans! I also think that they should not be compared because your right they are nothing alike besides the fact that there both New York Times best sellers!. Both Twilight and Harry Potter fans alike need to accept the fact that even though they are both great series that we should understand that we all have different opinions about which is the best and we also have different tastes in books!. With such big fan basses in both we need to get along as both readers and great fans of these two books!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First off, I think that possibly, the Harry Potter fans don't compare Harry Potter to Twilight because they think that Harry Potter is better than Twilight, and it's not even worth comparing!.

Second: Yes, they do have nothing in common, but they were both on the best seller's list and they're both extremely popular!.

Third: Nobody's comparing the vampires to the entire series!. They're comparing the entire Twilight saga or whatever, to the entire Harry Potter series!.

Fourth: Harry Potter is probably a children's book because it's more fantasy and magical stuff than Twilight is!. I mean, everyone in Harry Potter lives in Hogwarts!. The characters in Twilight live in Washington!.!.!. Twilight's probably a "young adult novel" because of the romantic stuff!. I don't see so much romance going on in Harry Potter!. The way I see it, Twilight's just more buyable, whereas Harry Potter is just SO INCREDIBLY FICTIONAL!. I realize vampires aren't real, but it just seems more--can't think of the word--than Harry Potter's wizards and witches and brooms and wands and all that other MAGICAL stuff!. Children believe in magic!. Harry Potter has magic!. Ergo, Harry Potter is a children's book!.

I don't know, but I have found a few instances where Stephenie Meyer has said in interviews that Twilight will never be bigger than Harry Potter and that Harry Potter has nothing to worry about!. She also said she doesn't get the comparison because they are not alike!. If people would research sales figures they would find out that Twilight is nowhere near as popular as Harry Potter!. In fact, I don't know anyone personally who has even heard of Twilight!.

I don't know why everyone considers Harry Potter a "children's book" if they did their homework they would find out that JK Rowling actually wrote Harry Potter for adults, but she is glad that kids are reading it too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the only things both books share is that they are both fantasy and both popular!. that's it!. i love them both, but twilight isn't quite as good as harry potter!. I agree that harry potter is actually more mature than just a children's book!. I don't think that there will ever be a book as good as Harry Potter, but i've seen other books that have been trying to compete!. I dont know!. I think they measure it in sucess and i think both are just as sucsessful as each other and they shoud see it that way!. I think twiligt is as big as harry potter but i wish people would stop comparing it and tbh i do wish people would stop going on about it cos when i first read it, it had only just come out , now everyone think there the biggest fan and i'm sick of hearing about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because they are both "fad" series!. People are generally comparing the "overnight" success of the authors!.

And don't dilude yourself!. HP is not a "literary" piece!. It's pure "escape fic," don't try to attribute "symbolism" and other literary devices to such a shoddy piece of crap!.

yea, all my friends now think HP is lame and say once the twilight movie comes out it will sell and HP will stop being popular!. they think twilight will make more money than the new HP too

I'm not really sure why you keep asking this question!.

I agree that they're completely different!. I don't think Twilight will ever eclipse Harry Potter (pardon the pun, I had to), but it's kind of "the next big thing!." It's similar to when the last HP books were coming out - the excitement that built around that!. I don't consider either one of them children's books, but I do think HP is more "friendly" toward a younger audience than is Twilight!. I think that Twilight deals mostly with young adult relationships with some adventure thrown in, while HP is more about the adventure with some relationships thrown in!.

I wouldn't say that you'll never see people dressed up as Twilight characters for Halloween!. I wouldn't be surprised at ALL!. And I'm not sure how a theme park makes HP better than Twilight!.

I think that if Meyer were to write 7 books, they might outshine HP - but ONLY because HP set people up to love reading, especially within this general genre!. The people that don't like HP either because of length or because they're not into the plotlines might be into Twilight because it's almost entirely focused on the people, and the plot only serves to develop the characters and their relationships!.

All told, I'll take HP over Twilight!. But don't discount it in any way - it's still a great work by a great author!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
