What do you think about Fan Fiction aka FanFic!?

I mean there are good stories and bad stories, depending where you look!. But do you think writing about fictional characters as if continuing a movie or book is stupid!? More importantly, is writing stories about a real person, like an actor or a band member, weird!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do not think it's bad!. Before I started writing my own fiction, I began writing FF!. It's a good way to get creative!.
Your already know the characters, and their situations!. So people are comfortable writing about those characters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like writing Fan Fiction, but that's probably because I am an only child with an over-active imagination!. I can't usually come up with stories of my own, so Fan Fiction is an easy way to entertain myself!. I enjoy it and some of my friends like to read it!.

I really hate it!. Actually, the last part of your question is the only part I do NOT find weird!. At least you are taking a person and putting them into a scene that is your own creation and making them into your own character!.

My one and only fan fiction was a gift for Stephen Colbert to thank him after my son and I spent his 21st birthday seeing The Colbert Report live in VIP seats!. It can be found in the forums at The Colbert Nation under Persiphone Hellecat!. You can read it there if you want to!. I took Stephen and made him into a 1940's style detective!. I enjoy reading parodies, but not fanfiction itself!.

I just don't see the gratification in winning a contest on fanfiction!.net when you didn't even come up with the characters yourself!. You take old characters and create some sort of new concept, that isn't even entirely new!

I don't think it's entirely stupid, but I also think there's no merit in it!. I wrote fanfic back in the days of gum chewing, crayola crayons, and skinned knees, but that was when I first realized I wanted to be a writer!. I mean, we all had to start somewhere!. It wasn't until a year later that I started coming up with my own, never to see the light of day, ideas!.

If people want to write, they should come up with their own, original ideas--not take old scenes or any of that jazz!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't like it!. I don't write and I don't read it!. It's great that people are writing, but make up your own stories, don't continue someone else's!. And I think writing fictional stories about real life people is weird!. I have heard band members say they thought it was weird too, that they don't like reading themselves as characters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have written a few when I was younger, mainly the start of them!. I never really finished them!. I will still read it but the older I get the less entertaining it has become for me!. It has to be extremely well written!. You can usually tell who wrote it: younger or older by the style!.

I like Fanfiction!.
But I don't like re-writing stories!. I love Harry Potter fanfic, but only about their parents because that story wasn't told!. Itleast not into the detail that Harry's story was told!.

Honestly, I am not interested in any sort of fan fic and never read any!. The most I've done is read books based on a particular universe i!.e!. Peter David's books based on Babylon 5 or Star Trek: TNG!. Those books, incidentally, are written by permission from the original creators!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think fan fiction is a way for the fans to try and get inside the heads of the author, and get into their world!. I would think an author would consider that the highest flattery!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
