I have to suggest my 'other Terry!.' The shelf under my Terry Brooks books is filled with Terry Pratchett!. He writes Discworld, a Fantasy/comedy/satire!. He's got this whole big world that he writes in!. I'd say start with "The Colour of Magic" and "The Light Fantastic!." They're one story in two books!. You'll meet Rincewind, Wizard from the Unseen University!. It's kind of an introduction to Discworld!. Then you've got a choice of mini-series about the wizards, the city guard, the witches in the mountains and the anthropomorphic personification of Death!. He's even got a few that are supposed to be young adult books but they're just as entertaining, they're about a young witch!. Oh, and there are a few random ones in there too where you'll see characters from an established series but the book is more about something totally different!.
I don't like to admit that they take up a lot of space on my bookshelf!. But they're very good and very funny!. If you try them be prepared to laugh because there isn't anything Pratchett won't make fun of!.

Or perhaps you'll like the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher!. Harry Dresden is the only wizard you'll find in the phonebook in the Chicago area!. He does consultations, paranormal investigations, finds lost items!. And he's really good at getting into trouble!. I'm not going to be able to do justice to these books at all because there are just not words enough for the awesome!. Harry is one of my very favorite characters!. He's got the cool factor tied up with his Black duster and wizards staff!. And he's got odd covered with his lab in the basement complete with a substitute computer, because electronics and magic don't get along, it's name is Bob!. Bob's a spirt of knowledge inhabiting a skull!. And when he gets out of the skull there are epic parties at the University!. And if you want action and spells flying you've got it!. Harry's not really trained to fight, but he's got too much chivalry to just stand by when a werewolf is attacking of an evil spellcaster is killing people!.
The sci-fi channel made a TV series out of the books, but it's a case of the book is better!. I know, everyone says that but it's not always true!. They just didn't capture the magic right!.

When you say "The more spell casting the better!." It makes me think that you'll really like Harry Dresden!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question!. Here it is:

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content!. There is also a "Readers' Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books, plus a full review of "The Golden Compass"!.

Since you like spell casting, I recommend most strongly the Vance book!. The magic system is superior to any that I have ever read!. However, this does contain non-explicit adult content (borders on explicit in one instance)! The Dungeons and Dragons creators adopted Vance's magic system for their game, and his stories are really excellent!.

"The Last Unicorn" has some very interesting spell casting!.

"A Spell for Chameleon" and "Seventh Son" have individuals with very well-described magical *talents* - which is not the same as spell casting!.

The "Deryni" series by Kurtz, not mentioned on my site, has the most detailed ritual (ceremonial) magic!. These books are actually quite good, but *heavily* Christian, and I hesitate to recommend them to everyone because of my own Christian bias (in favor)!. If you can deal with pervasive medi-eval Christianity in your fantasy, get the "Camber of Culdi" trilogy by Kurtz!. Some adult topics, nothing explicit, and nearly as entertaining as Vance!. The series is much longer than Vance's!.

I hope this helps!.

Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey

This is a large collection and every book in it is excellent!. The concept of being *chosen* by a companion, which is essentially a telepathic horse with amazing powers, is delightful!. Once chosen you become one of the elite heralds, protectors of the realm!. Start with Arrows of the Queen!.

The Belgariad (5), The Malloreon(5), The Elenium (3), The Tamuli(3) by David and Leigh Eddings

I can't say enough good about these books!. They are full of rich content, fantastic worldbuilding and plenty of sorcery!. One of my biggest draws is the humor, the interaction between characters can be side splitting at times!. They are rift with dry wit, affectionate banter and personal quirks!. My favorite books hands down!.
