If you have ever seen the Disney movies Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Cinderella, or Beauty and the Beast than you have been exposed to "magic"!. You know it's not real!. Just like the books!. And at 14 you are the perfect age to read them because you understand that!.

The books have a lot of the usual fantasy elements that authors have been using for centuries: Characters have special powers, Place is imaginary or of another world or universe, There is a wise mentor, There are good friends: smart &/or goofy, Theme of good versus bad/evil, Use of classic creatures from mythology!.

The books are coming of age novels set in a world of fantasy!. It is a story about friendship and the choice of good over evil!. The books get considerably darker/ scarier/ more serious (book 4 and onwards) but this works well for as you mature- the books do as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think they are amazing! The stories are very in depth!. It is insane to me how JK made such an elaborate world all in her head!. The characters are so well developed!. If you are a fan of fiction series, these books are excellent! The character development alone makes them worth reading!. However, I do not know your age and why you are not allowed to read them!. My advice is to follow your parents wishes, but try delicately to convince them otherwise!. They obviously have their reasons for not allowing you to read them!. But, they may have been led to their opinions falsely!. Let them look at some Harry Potter websites!. They usually have wonderful synopsis that can let your parents no that they are a work of fiction and are in no way condoning witchcraft or its practice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They are a great, fun read!. They are about an IMAGINARY world with magic and other fun differences!. I read them with my children and they loved the imaginary world and characters!. They loved that a young person was the hero and managed to handle big evil and still struggle with normal things all young people face!.

The reading level of the books are maybe 5th grade!. My kids started reading them about 10 and 12 and grew up reading them as they released each year!. My son stayed the same age as Harry through the first several books!.

If you've seen the movies, you should know the movies are darker than the books!. The characters in the books maintain more youthful innocence and the images are less scary, to me anyway!.

Some people think there is something wrong with the books, evil, occult, and against god!. I do not agree!. The magic is pretend, even young children are smart enough to know the difference!. Harry and his friends stand firmly and fight for what is good and try to do what is right at all times!. They are an excellent role model!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They transport you to a magical world full of Witches, Wizards and fantastic creatures!
The stories start off with Harry as an 11 year old boy who finds out he is a Wizard!. As he grows so the stories grow!. The earlier books are ideal for young children but the final 4 books are a bit more gruesome and seem more for older children/adults!. I'd recommend them to anyone!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, they've brought an entire generation back to reading, so I'd say they're pretty good!. Yeah, they're long, but you won't be able to put them down!.

I don't understand why people feel that they're such a bad influence!. I'm a Christian and I love the books, and I've never felt any desire to try magic or be a witch!. They're just fun reads that don't have meaning outside that!. Harry Potter isn't the antiChrist - nor is he the Christ, as some analogies say!.

They're very good, and I don't think you're too young to read them!. My brother is 9 and has read them all - he took the AR tests and aced them all!. I don't think you're too young at all!.

I thought the first couple were good and read them quite quickly!. By the time I reached the third and fourth books, the novelty of the story had worn a bit thin on me and I found them harder to get through!. I gave up halfway through the fifth book and haven't read anymore, despite having the whole series!.

I'm a Christian and I enjoy Harry Potter!. I believe that the the HP series is mostly about the fight between good and evil!. I've been reading them for years now and I haven't started practicing witchcraft or trying to fly on broomsticks!. love the books myself but If its against what you believe in then don't read them!. They're pretty good!. Not "the greatest stories ever written", but they are interesting to read!. If you can't read books that have magic, maybe your parents let you read good books without magic, like:

The Jungle Books by Kipling
Doctor Dolittle by Lofting

These are free online and don't have "magic spells" or anything like that!. They *do* both have talking animals, though!.

For sure they are not in the Charles Dickens league but any book or books that open the door of the wonderful world of literature cannot be bad!. I feel that the Dark materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman is far superior!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
