Actually, the Greek used marble less often than most people think!. About half of all greek sculptures were cast in bronze!. The other half were divided among wooden carvings, marble, and clay!. They also cast sculptures in other metals besides bronze!.

Most people tend to think the Greek only used marble because marble is the form that's survived until today!. But that's because other materials breakdown much quicker, and because the bronze was so valuable, that it wasn't uncommon for those types of statues to be melted down and the bronze reused after time!. Especially in wartime, bronze was a great metal for making weapons!.

also, the truth is there aren't many greek sculptures still in existence today, most of what we have are actually Roman copies of Greek statues!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Greek sculptures portray the idolized form of the human body!.!. often portraying gods!. (compared to Romans who use real forms of the body) an example that I know is "Discus Thrower"

EDIT: oh haha most are made of marble, although some are made form other forms of medium including lime stone or metal!. Marble is the most popular though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
