Technically they're shades!.

But I agree with you!.

White is a complete absence of color!. Take a canvas and don't do anything to it!.

Black is an over-saturation of color!. Take the same white canvas and apply to it red, green, puce, orange, mauve, blue, taupe, yellow!.!.!.you'll have black!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

in photography black and white are not colours or hues they are shades!. For example there is no colour in black and white film just shades from blacks to greys to whites, grey is a mixture of the shades of black and white

Actually, a TINT is a colour + white!. A hue is just the correct term for colour, or a "pure colour"!.

In terms of light, white is made of every single other color so technically it is a color!.

In terms of paint/ink, black is usually made of a combination of several shades of dark blue, purple, and brown!. So technically it can be a color as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes and no!.!.!. technically speaking white is the presence of all colors!. That's why light when reflected through a prism sprays pretty rainbows everywhere!. Black is technically the absence of any color!. But when you're taught colors in preschool white and black are taught along with all other colors!. I mean how many times have you heard someone say that "black" is there favorite color! I have a lot!

I get what your saying!. In an obvious sense of the word they are but in certain areas they are considered totally different things!. Anyone who gets all technical over something so small just to argue with you is just trying to be a know-it-all!. lol
