Question: Why is Sculpey still soft after baking and cooling!?
I am new to polymer clay but have used Super Sculpey before!. I recently bought Premo Sculpey in black!. I made a small pendent, very thin, no more than 1/4 inch thick!. I baked as directed, 30 minutes at 275 degrees!. When it came out it was still extremely soft (I do relize Sculpey is soft when it first comes out but this was still extremely malleable), I popped it back in for 10 minute intervals, probably baking it for 60 minutes total!. I let it cool overnight and it is still very soft!. It has the consistancy of hard rubber!.

For a test, I have original Sculpey, the flesh colored kind, and Sculpey III in silver!. I created the exact design for both and baked for their recommended times, 15 minutes at 275!. When cooled, the original Sculpey was hard as a rock, the silver also had the hard rubber consistancy!.

My question is, does the Premo Sculpey and Sculpey III ever harden behond this hard rubber consistancy!? If so, what am I doing wrong!? My oven works fine and is always pre-heated before I bake!.

Thanks so much for any help!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Premo is made to remain slightly flexible in thin areas!. Premo has a completely different formulation than other Sculpey products!. You can create book marks with Premo and bend them end for end!. Try this with the other clays and they will 'snap'!.
The fact that Premo has this property gives it it's strength!. Make something thicker with Premo and it will be stronger than the other Sculpey clays!. I have dropped small sculptures on ceramic tile and they have survived!. Did the same thing with Super Sculpey and I had pieces all over the floor!.
Super Sculpey and SculpeyIII will be very brittle in thin areas!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
