You are looking at Tethered Mode!. The computer is connected to the camera with a USB cable!. (There is also a wireless way of doing this--but it's not cheap at all!.)

Each photo (each file, I should say), is sent to the computer as soon as it is created!. Photoshop program does not really "load" them (you wouldn't want a hundred photos opened anyway)!. In Adobe Bridge, it will show as thumb-nail!.

Adobe Lightroom can do this, too!.

I am not familiar with Nikon dSLR system, but with Canon, it comes with a program, a driver, to do this!. The problem I encountered is that it used so much power that two fully charged batteries in the hand grip in my camera only lasted twenty or so minutes, and it's more of a pain really!.

p!.s!. One program controls the camera (not the other way around--the camera does not control the computer)--and the driver (installed first) enables the computer to "talk" to the camera!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
