Question: Adults: should we help these children with their homework!?
With questions like, "if I want more contrast than what appears on my negative what type of paper do I use!?" and when you remind them to do their own homework, they report you!. Has the world gone to the toilet!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a moral conundrum, all right!. You want to help, but at the same time when you see questions that were obviously copied word-for-word from a test question or a homework assignment, you can't help but feel kind of annoyed and wonder whether or not you should waste your time!. They'll just end up copying and pasting your answer, literally!.

And of course, it's not always kids!. It could be anyone of any age taking a photography class in college!.

What really annoys me is when you get questions from kids who took a photography class, thinking it was all going to be about digital cameras and "photoshopping!." So of course, they didn't pay attention at all when the instructor was teaching about using film and developing!. There was one girl that posted a question that I could tell was taken from a test!. She even emailed me and admitted that it was from a test and that "it wasn't fair for all the people who wanted to use digital cameras!." She was probably talking and texting on her cell phone during that part of the class!. Well, too bad!.

No!.!.!.don't answer questions that look like they are obviously from a test or a homework assignment!. I like to help people, but I am NOT going to do someone's homework for them!. Especially if they have no real interest in photography, and just thought they were going to take a class that was going to get them an easy A!.

I also have to agree with Perki, about how kids don't know how to do research anymore!. It's true!. I work in a computer lab in a public library, and all the time we get kids who come in to do an assignment for school!. They ask questions like "what website do I go to get the state flag for Minnesota!?" The sad thing is they really think that they can just to go a website and get the information instantly spoon-fed to them (like I guess type in www!.minesotaflag!.com!?) Of course, the first thing I do is show them how to do a search on Google!. But the thing is, kids really are NOT nearly as resourceful and clever as people think they are!. Older people think that kids are so smart because they can use a computer!.!.!.but the problem is that most kids don't understand how to do research on a conceptual level anymore!. They can click on links, but they don't understand how to actually SEARCH for information!. The majority of the kids that come into the library have no idea how to even use Google!.

I think that people around my age, in their 20s and early 30s have an advantage because we grew up learning how to use traditional resources like the encyclopedia and looking up books in the library!.!.!.AND we also grew up with computers and the internet!. So Google was kind of a natural extension of what we had already learned!. I knew how to do a search using internet search engines, because I already had the concept from looking things up in the library when I was a kid!. I knew how to do a subject search, I knew how to find information!.

But I think now, kids are so used to just clicking on links that they don't understand how to SEARCH and actually do real research on a conceptual level!. And it really is sad, because with the internet, we now have instant access to information on whatever subject you want!. But you have to know how to get that information and how to search for it intelligently and resourcefully!. I think kids don't know how to do that anymore!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

So many people here are saying that kids should do their own work, but yet that is exactly what they are doing!. If they don't ask the question, what are they going to do just think about it until it magically appears in front of them!? If everybody who knew the answer just said "do the research", THERE WOULD BE NO INFORMATION TO RESEARCH! I agree that some questions are pretty stupid, but the stupid questions are being asked because that person wants to learn something!. I would rather have a million people asking me stupid questions than just one person not asking anything at all!.

About the whole page of homework questions, I agree that we should be cautious about how we answer those!. Maybe this person is someone who normally wouldn't have done homework though, and they may be getting something out of it, not as much as someone doing the entire assignment would, but at least its something!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Helping someone with their homework is fine, but you really need to draw the line somewhere!. I!.e!. Doing their homework for them does not prepare them 1) For their exams 2) For life in general!. Fully researched material tends to stay in the mind for longer, and like anything in life, something that needs to be worked at and nurtured is far more rewarding than something handed out on a plate!.

Unfortunately the world today revolves around instant gratification and greed!. Sad but true!. Stemming that tide will be difficult!.!.!. if not, more than likely, impossible!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can look at this two ways!.

In the learning process, students use resources, in that light, using Yahoo as resource point counts, but in the end they are missing out on learning how to use many resources to compile good data!.

The risk is that the information may be flawed!. If they only depend upon our answers, and do not verify the information, they are running the risk of hanging their grade on faulty information!.

I am sure you have seen answers that are incomplete or just wrong here, so the "children" need to keep that in mindWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think an occasional question is ok, I mean sometimes I ask homework questions simply because I can't seem to find the answer in my book or anywhere else, or becasuse I don't understand it 100% and my parents usually can't help!.!.!.!. so :)

if someone does give me an answer I always re-phrase so its in my own wordsWww@QuestionHome@Com

When they get out in the real world and have to rely on their brains and experience(or lack of) then it will come back to haunt them!. The people who really want to learn will be rewarded for their hard work while the others will still be living in their parents basement!.
It's called thinning the herd!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think children should learn to research their own answers!. The web has made access to information much easier, yet it is appalling that rather than "Google" an answer they go for an even shorter route by asking here!.In no uncertain terms, this is no better than cheating!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some of the questions are actually valid!. But some are just retarded!. Open a book and look @ the first paragraph and the answer almost bites you in the ***!. One kid yesterday didnt know what matter was lol, look in the glossary man sheesh!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you answer a question, you should answer the question!. I'd rather send someone to class with a copied answer than with a blank sheet of paper!. He or she might have learned something while copying!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think they should suffer If you not paying attition in class then you should get an F That's why they call it homework for you to do and not someone elseWww@QuestionHome@Com
