my way of photographing is simply taking photographs at the moment, not really thinking about setting the scene up but i take the photo with different exposures, focus and so forth in order to then decide which one is best!. sometimes i would stare at something until i figure out a way to photograph and "stage" it but I dont go to great lengths to build anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure what you mean by "workbook"!.!.!.do you mean keeping a log sheet of the subject, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, etc!. !?

If so, then yes I do occasionally!. I use almost entirely film, especially for landscape photos (I just prefer to use film) and whenever I try a new film, I will keep notes!. I made a chart on my computer, which I just print out to keep notes on each roll of film!. I write down what kind of film I used and the ISO, the date, the subject, and what aperture and shutter speed I used!. It's really helpful for later, when I develop the film I can look at the negatives and compare the frames on the negative with the notes on my log sheet!. That way, I can compare the picture with what settings I used!. If I noticed that a picture was overexposed or underexposed or there were any other issues, I can get a better idea of how to improve next time!.

I don't keep notes for all my pictures though!. I do have an idea in mind ahead of time for what kind of pictures I want to take!. Often I will even go to that place ahead of time and try to imagine the picture and see what would look best!. But I don't always keep notes if I think that it might distract me from taking the pictures!. For example, sometimes the lighting and weather is unpredictable!.!.!.maybe I like the way clouds are appearing over mountains a certain way and I so I really need to be paying attention to that!.

But yes, some forethought always goes into my pictures!.!.!.sometimes even days or weeks ahead!. There have been times where I will think about a landscape photo for a month ahead of time, just trying to imagine how to get it the way I want!.!.!.maybe waiting for a certain kind of weather!. I do keep notes on some of my pictures, but not all of them!. I will always write down the date and location though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
