Question: What are some good programs to digitally color artwork!?
Some of my friends are really good artists!. I would like to try my hand at digitally coloring some of their stuff!. Are their any good (relatively inexpensive) programs to start out on!? Mostly they draw comic characters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Jarod:
The top program is of course Photoshop!. However, there are some less expensive alternatives that you can try!. One of them is Photoshop Elements (version 7 for PC, version 6 for Mac)!. It will cost you less than $100!.

Another is the free, legal Open Source image editor the Gimp!. You can find that at www!.gimp!.org!. It uses an interface that's different from Photoshop's, but many people use it!. It also is one of the few free or low cost image editing programs that uses Layers like Photoshop does, and this will be very important for doing the digital coloring you want to do!. Gimp has a lot of support!. There are forums and user groups you can join that will help you learn how to use it, and there are several books available now for the program!. You can also download a free podcast for the GImp called Meet the Gimp (you can find it on iTunes or just Google it)!.

Another thing you will need besides an image editing program is a scanner!. You will need to use this to scan in (create a digital image file of) your friends' art, unless of course they already have digital images of their work they can give you!.

If you need more help, please feel free to e-mail me through my profile!.

I hope this helps you get started!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, Photoshop is considered to be top dog, but it's not cheap!. You also have Corel Painter, which is probably second in teh running!. also, not cheap!.

Your best bet will probably to get an elements (aka, stripped down version) of these programs, and test them out that way!. Easiest way to do that is to get a wacom tablet!. A wacom tablet is a piece of plastic that you draw on with a specialized pen!. What you do on the tablet shows up on your computer!. They're really cool, and you can't make decent digital art without one!. Usually, when you buy a wacom, you get a copy of corel and photoshop elements with it!. So it's like a 2 for 1 deal lol!.

That's my recommendation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

there are a lot of programs to choose from!. theres:

adobe photoshop
adobe illustrator
corel painter
open canvas

you can actually download open canvas for free and it works very well!. very similar to photoshop!. and if you are really serious about coloring digitally i'd also recommend investing in a wacom tablet!. they come in different sizes and models to choose from and they'll make your life a lot easier!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Photoshop is the best choice!. There might be another one but I don't know it because all I see is photoshop!.
For drawings you should get photoshop element 7!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
