Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
DSLRs
- Pentax K100D has the widest selection of lenses as all Pentax lenses are intercompatible!. I use this camera and have had very good results!.
- Nikon D40 - The cheapest Nikon, and also very reliable
- Nikon D60 - Slightly more costly, but worth it for the improved kit lens and larger megapixels!.
- Canon 1000D - Canon's new entry level camera!. Don't know much about it, but it's a good price
- Canon 450D - Upgrade of the popular 400D (I think these ones are known as Digital Rebels in the US) and is a good SLR with live view!.

Non-SLR
- You can't really go wrong with a Panasonic Lumix or a Canon Powershot!. High performance Canon Ixus cameras such as the 970IS are also good!.
- If you've got a slightly lower budget, opt for a Fuji S-Series camera such as the S9600, the S6500fd (which I own and love!), the S5700 or the S8100!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That depends on your definition of not to expensive and your willingness to learn how to use your camera!. If you are taking photography classes I would suggest a SLR (single lens reflex) either film or digital!. Check with the teacher to see whether they use digital or film!.
The best and cheapest beginner DSLR's at this time are the Canon Rebel XS and the Nikon D40!. Both are about $500 with a lens!.

The glare and whiteness on your photos are more than likely the result of the flash!. The light from a flash tends to be very harsh!. With point and shoot cameras it is worse because the flash is to close to the lens and you can't bounce the flash off of a wall or ceiling!.

If you take a class this will all be explained to you!. Your photos will be much better for it as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can buy the most expensive DSLR camera and the photos will be just as good as a standard point and shoot!. It all depends on the photographer's expertise!. I've taken pictures with a cheap point and shoot that get oohs and aahs from people!. What really matters to me is the zoom and pixels on it!.

Start small and work your way up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I started out with a Nikon d40 and took it to my first photography class!. Top of the line entry level slr (single lense reflective) camera!. As you learn more about photography and become more advanced, you will want to upgrade!. I'm not saying you will have to upgrade, but you will want to!. If you never plan on printing anything larger than 8x10 and emailing pics, etc!. the d40 is the only camera you will ever need!. Period!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
