That's an interesting question!.

There are a few differences worth mentioning!.

a) The Canon has a CMOS sensor, whereby the A350 has a CCD sensor!. Many people are saying that CMOS sensors are better!. Personally, i've noticed, the noise performance is better!.

http://www!.dalsa!.com/corp/markets/CCD_vs!.!.!.

b) The Sony shoots 2!.4 Frames per second, which is rather slow!. That is slower than the Nikon D40!. the Canon 30d shoots five frames per second, and we both now how Great that is! When it comes to shooting Sports, that will really come in handy!.

c) also, the A350 doesn't really have a top status LCD screen, which could be a disadvantage when you are shooting on Sunny days!.

d) also, the 30d is heavier, and easier to hold!. Feels much more comfortable in the hands!. also, you get the Weather-proofed Magnesium alloy body with the 30d!. It's ' made like a tank '!. Is the A350 weather-proofed!? No!

Don't worry that the a350 has all of those megapixels!. In reality, that's not what makes a picture!. It's the skill of the photographer!. You can get a lot of sharp images with 8 megapixels!. I own the 30d, and so does a friend of mine with a professional studio!. The images are Beautiful, especially when you have an L lens mounted on it!.

Although the Canon 30d was released Almost three years ago, it was build to last!. If you really want to upgrade you should save up your money and get the Canon 50d!. You don't need to regress to an entry-level Sony camera!. I really suggest you keep it, and save up for another camera!. You also will need a back-up camera!.

also, you will notice that Sony lenses can never have the build quality of Canon's higher-end lenses!. also, they are notoriously expensive!. Canon has a larger variety of lenses, and other accessories!. I would keep the Canon 30d, and save up for another camera, not the a350Www@QuestionHome@Com

The question you need to ask about this exchange is, "Who benefits!?"

If you're happy with your camera why do you need to change it!? If they really want to exchange their Sony for your Canon is it because they don't like their camera and think yours will be better!?

Go with your gut instinct, you're uncertain that you will benefit and that's why you've have asked this question!.

If you seriously think about going ahead with the swap make sure you're getting like for like, that you won't have to spend more to have the same amount of gear!.

Sony cameras are good, they've got quite a following, so have Canon!. Read about both cameras and make up your own mind, then be happy with your decision!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all why would you consider trading a semi-professional camera body for an entry level model!. Please tell us that it is not because the Sony has live view!.
If you have any money invested in lenses remember that they will not fit on the Sony!. Only Canon mount lenses will fit on your camera!.

I am not saying that Sony makes a bad camera but the Canon is a much better camera!. It has much better build quality and access to many more high quality lenses and other accessories!. Your not even comparing similar models!. I my opinion your friends think you have a better camera and are trying to scam you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

how many lenses are involved!?

You of course know you are changing systems completely

Here is something to consider!.

http://www!.dpreview!.com/reviews/compare_!.!.!.
As you can see, while the a350 is a lot newer camera, the canon has held its value!.

My guess is your son decided after he invested in a Sony, that the two systems the pros use are really the Nikon and Canon systems!. My guess is that he is planing on doing more research into becoming a working photographer and wants to have, in this case, a Canon system in the process of building his set of tools

If he attempts to use the pixel count on you, here is what that is all about !.!.!.

http://www!.kenrockwell!.com/tech/mpmyth!.h!.!.!.

Let us know what lenses are involved because actually the lenses are worth much more that any of the bodies!. If you think of it, the lenses you buy now will last for decades, while the bodies are replaced about every three to five years due to the advancement of technology!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The two are similar in some aspects!. More and more professionals are using Sony!. Canon and Nikon aren't the only two slr manufacturers!. Nikon has even been using Sony-designed sensors lately!.

If you have an investment in good Canon lenses, then I would advise you to stay with Canon!. Maybe upgrade your model!.

If you have no investment in Canon lenses then I would say you should entertain the idea of trading!. If you do want to switch brands, now is the time before you do have an investment in the Canon brand!.

I am switching from Canon to Sony in January!. I have researched this decision for the last four months, so I have no doubt I have made the right decision for me!. But I can't make the decision for you!.

Here is a link to a side by side comparison of the 30d and the a350:

I thought the comparison might help you weigh the pros and cons of each camera model to see which one would best suit your needs!.

Good luck making a decision!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

there are three players in the "pro" dslr market now,

should you swap!? do the dpreview thing above, then compare the prices of the primes of both makers then consider the future of 35mm dslr photography, either brand you wont go wrongWww@QuestionHome@Com

y'know, i shoot with an olympus and a nikon and my friends all have canon, nikon and mamya and a lycra in the mix!.
but if someone is initiating a trade, i'd run the other way because they are trying to play me for a sucker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

sonys suck keep the Canon!. Canon's are a top product and will last a lifetime!. I have a 1971 Canon AE-1 film camera and it still works great!. my sister had a sony cybershot and in a month is broke!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
