treatment of the human figure,

I think the treatment of the figure (the pose for example and the arrogant stare) suggests an age where social class hierarchy was very important!.
The king's rich, elaborate outfit is worthy of his title, the "Sun King"!.
I don't think there is anything in this painting that hints at the religious climate of the time!.
From a philosophical standpoint, I think (at least looking at the condescending stare) Louis XIV actually BELIEVED that he had a God-given right to reign (divine right)!.
also, I guess this leads me to believe that religious attitudes of the time very strict (certain people were born for certain destinies), and everyone had a role to fill!.
Being a serious artist, I always saw this painting from an artistic point of view (colors, composition, brushstrokes)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
