1 over the focal length of your lens!.!.!. for example, if your lens is 100mm, then the shutter speed shouldn't be longer than 1/100 sec!.

Another tip: Using a flash will help freeze your subject!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Are you taking quality photographs or snap shots!. Frankly, I for not a photograph that I really want to have, I would never shoot even at 1/60 without a tripod!.

Not really a question for me, however, the cameras that I have are heavy and I am old, so a tripod is a fixture with me!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Old "Rule of Thumb" : "Your shutter speed should always be 1/focal length!." So when using a 300mm lens you'd shoot at 1/300 sec!. or higher!. With Image Stabilization in the lens or camera body its a whole new day!.

My personal rule is to use a tripod whenever possible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When hand-holding, it's generally the factor of 1 divided by the focal length of your lens until the focal length drops below your standing heart rate!.

In otherwords 1/35th for a 35mm lens is slower than your heartrate of 72 so you would need a tripod!.

Got it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The slowest I can hand hold my camera and still like the photos is 1/125

However, I can turn on the IS and get down to about 1/60

When in doubt throw on the tripod or open the aperture!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you have REALLY steady hands, you can probably get down to 1/30 at least!. I used to could shoot at 60, but now I have shaky hands and shoot at a faster ISO and, speed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe that depends on how steady you are but I think nothing below 60 and 100 is more sure for most of us ~~One way to know take pictures of the same thing from the same spot just changing the shutter speed ~~enjoy~~ Www@QuestionHome@Com

with or without image stabilization!? It depends on a lot of things, such as focal length, hand shake, etc!.

I recently took a very sharp photo at 1/6 handheld!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

rule of thumb!.!.!. but i see many has point that out!.!. but with stabilizer, u can probably go 2 stops lowerWww@QuestionHome@Com
