Question: Need ideas: what direction should I take this drawing!?
This is a drawing I begin some weeks back, set aside, and never have returned to!. It is a fanciful depiction of Montezuma, but I do not know what to do next with it!. Any suggestions!?

Finish the feet, with sandals!. Put the figure on a stone platform!. That will give it a base and make the figure more regal!. You could complete a stone pyramid wall behind it, with a dark arched "doorway" behind the figure to make it stand out!. Conventionalized clouds and cobalt sky behind stone work!. Give the composition a frame with figure dominant to the left as a vertical, and the bird weighted towards tail to balance!.!. Dress the figure in a feather cloak, falling in a widening column from the shoulders!. That could give more presence and stature to the figure!. It would also create a rough triangle to echo the triangular fall of the bird's tail!. Complete the image in brightly colored, conventionalized sections, in the style of Inca paintings, but without imitating them!. Investigate the Mexican muralists (e!.g!. Diego Rivera) for styles to "play" on!. You could use suitable contrasting primary colors, or black, as edges of the sections making up the image (like stained glass) to take advantage of your obvious talent for line!. The bird and the cloak, featuring strong primaries, secondaries, complements, and "grays" (i!.e!. primaries mixed with their complement) could interplay the components and colors - the cloak sectioned with consistent feather shapes (smaller at shoulders than hem), and the bird featuring overlaid "grace-lines" ("s shapes") within the triangular cascade representing the tail feathers!. I'd suggest generally a modern "primitive" feeling emphasizing design!. Have a look at Arte Nouveau!. Or you could just do the whole thing in monotone grisaille, mimicking low relief sculpture, exploiting the lineal qualities!. Either way I'd accent the aquiline features of Montezuma with tonal areas and line as a great, grand, stoical but doomed Emperor!. Have fun!. You could photocopy the drawing on decent paper, then develop it in different ways!. It's a lovely drawing!. Keep it alive by paying attention to the "gesture"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, he should have a full right arm, and perhaps he should be holding an intrument of war, or power, or of healing!.

A bit on the modern side for a Montezuma, good idea, mexicans would hate it

BTW, I notice he has noAss!.!.!. a Godking should have an ***

EDIT* Joe, I think that "THing he is holding" is a PeacockWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'ts awesome!!!
One of the only drawings on here worth looking at!.
I would suggest maybe a temple wall or rain forest in the background, and maybe adding some color to select sections!.
Maybe Montezuma's skin can be like blue or something!.
lol maybe a demon in lurking in the shadows (if you want shadows)
The bird is awesome
You are amazing!! You must be like 100 years old (Just kidding)

Nice, you should put some of the gods in the background to show his actions being guided by them or something!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
