How to regain control of Layers in Gimp.?

Question: How to regain control of Layers in Gimp!.!?

I am new to photo editing and just a minute ago when i opened a new image I have lost all control of the layers dialog box in GIMP!. The box is there but every option is grayed out and will not let me control anything!. It will not let me even add a layer!. A window comes up asking for the specifications of the new layer when i request one but it does nothing!. Any help, no matter how basic, would be appreciated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you opened new image , check settings for image mode rgb/ index / bitmap, and set to rgb, or start new blank canvas and view options,

that's really odd!. try minimizing the program, maybe there's another dialog window hiding behind that you never responded to!? that's happened to me before, otherwise!.!.!. no idea!. since it's relatively painless to download and reinstall, you could do that too!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
