Question: Light temperatures at church, help !?
I was told I'd need to check the light temperatures at the church!. How close should I put the thermometer to the lights!? And should I turn them off if they get too hot!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It is the candles that have the most heat!. Just take a white card in there with you and shoot a standard white balance image file!.

If you use a thermometer, be sure to calibrate it first!.

Usually the lights are fluorescent, so bring your toothbrush!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Light temperature refers to, literally, how hot the light source is!. The sun, being hotter than candles, has more blue and less yellow!. Your standard 100w incandescent bulb is in between candle color (warm) and sun color (cool)!.

A white or gray card white balance (or, if you are shooting raw, shoot a gray card placed right in front of or next to the subject, then use it to set the white balance for all the other raw images shot at the same location/lighting color!.)

Often a church will have several color temperatures: floodlights on the altar, daylight through windows, fluorescent light in the lobby!.!.!.!.

I use an Expodisc and custom white balance if I have the time!.

Color temperature is the blue/yellow balance!. A white-balance is color temperature (blue/yellow) AND tint (magenta/green) adjustment!.

With those two pairs of colors balanced, you don't have to worry about red/cyan balance at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My $5000 dollar Dslr has a thermometer built in, so I don't have to bring a separate one!. Be careful on the ladder, and don't drop yours if it's the mercury filled type!. With the proceeds from this wedding shoot, you should invest in a more expensive camera to run on full auto, because your only a professional when you have THE most expensive camera AND have no idea how to use it!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you've ever seen a triple-tiered wedding cake with whipped cream icing slide off in to the sunset, you would know that temperature matters!.

You can get an infrared heat sensor like they use in NASCAR to read the temperature from a distance!. Here's one: http://www!.autosportcatalog!.com/index!.cf!.!.!. With this device, you don't have to worry about how close you are!. It just gives you an accurate reading!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i cant remember if its 3 people or more - but if you the groom and the bride all say your there for Jesus (the priest is in it for the money), then set your camera to daylight white balance because jesus is light and you all pray for perfect exposure it will all be fineWww@QuestionHome@Com

Oh yeah, definitely turn them off as soon as possible! If there are candles, blow them out right before the ceremony so there is a nice smoky effect!. Then get the bride plenty drunk at the reception!.

As always, get payment in advance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends what color the lights are!.
It follows the same principles as astronomy!.
Small red lights are cool and giant blue lights are very hot!.
Easy peasy !Www@QuestionHome@Com

The infrared thermometer should work nicely!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps they meant the color temperature of the lights!? I don't know but I have no idea why the physical temp would matter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
