Question: How long can masking fluid stay on a painting!?
The back of the masking fluid bottle says "do not leave on paper for long periods"!. So what would long periods qualify as!? I sometimes take a while when working on paintings since I work on and off!. Would I have to rub off the masking fluid each night and reapply it the next day!? What would it do to the paper if I left it on long!? (what's long!?)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The manufacturers of the masking fluids say no more than 24 hours!. I, too; have left masking fluid on for an extended period!. On paper, it will adhere and tear the paper!. However; if you use it on a canvas or Aquabord, you should have no problems leaving it on for extended periods because they won't tear!. But that is just an assumption - I have never tried it!. I know I have left it on for over a week and have had a very hard time taking it off!.!.!. it's actually torn my paper!. So I would say, do not leave it on more than three days!. And yes, just rub it off if you know that you're not going to come back to it within a couple of days and reapply it when you are ready to paint again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a few days is ok!. a couple of weeks is so so!. but don't ever leave it for months!. It will never come off!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
