Question: Need help finding lens for dSLR!. PLEASE READ WHOLE QUESTION!.!?
I'm trying to find lens for my dSLR, but I cannot find one to suit my requirements!. I have tried searching!. I'd like to start with just one lens for now, but I need help finding one!. These are the most important things I'm looking for:

-The mount would have to be for Canon!.
- Focal lengths needed: wide angle, standard, and telephoto (NOT super telephoto!)!.
- Prefer zoom lens (wide angle to telephoto) mostly!.
- Maximum aperture of f/1!.4 - f/2!.8 (preferably a constant aperture of f/1!.4 or so, instead of a range)!.
- Would prefer first party lens, but don't mind if it's a third party!.
- Most important extra features:
silent autofocus, full-time manual focus (preferred), non-rotating front element, image stabilization, and internal zoom!. CONSIDERING crop reduction, maybe superior optics, but those aren't very important right now!. It depends how much it would affect the price, which I'm sure is by a lot!.

Yes, I do understand the abbreviations, that is not my problem!. My price range is anything not overly expensive, like $2,500+!. I am willing to sacrifice some of these features, depending on what they are!.

I'd appreciate if anyone is able to help, or at least provide me with somewhere I can look for one easily (online)!. I want to check what I'd like to buy before I go to an actual store!.

PLEASE, do not answer if you are just going to say "I don't know!." That really does not help anyone!.

Depends on your camera and if you have a crop sized sensor (Rebels, 30D, 40D, new 50d) or a full frame sensor (5D, new 5DMKII, etc)!. I have a 40D but only purchase Canon EF mount lenses instead of Canon EF-S which is for cropped sensors!. The EF mounted lens are compatible both ways so when I go full frame, my EF lenses will work!. With that being said, I would definately stick with the "L" senses from Canon as you really can't go wrong with the L's!. Here is a list that hopefully will help you!. Look on bhphoto!.com or Canon's website for breakdowns of these lenses!.

Canon EF 35mm f/1!.4 L
Canon EF 85mm f/1!.8
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2!.8 L
Canon EF 17-40 f/4!.0 L
Canon EF 24-70mm F/2!.8 L
Canon EF 70-200mm F/4 L USM
Canon EF 70-200mm F/2!.8 L USM Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're asking for combinations of features that aren't available!. If you are willing to invest $2500, you can probably get a couple of lenses that will satisfy your needs!.

It might help if you explain what you will be shooting, and why you need the features you mentioned!. That would make it a lot easier to list options that would work for your purposes!.

One site that I like to order from is Canoga Camera!. You might check out their selection of lenses - they have pretty much everything:

You can also review what Canon makes in lenses:http://www!.usa!.canon!.com/consumer/contro!.!.!.
Scroll down a little and you can review the whole product line of lenses!.

Okay, I didn't need to go beyond "aperture of f 1!.4" because there is no zoom lens with that aperture of f 1!.4 for 35 mm format!.

The best you can do (and it's a really good lens) is Canon 24-70 mm f 2!.8 L!. It should be in your price range--"only" $1,200!.

One thing you did not mention is that what camera are you using!? Full frame!? or smaller one!?

If you take a look at the list of lenses available for Canon EOS cameras, you will see that there are NO f/1!.4 zoom lenses!.

The only fixed aperture lenses available for Canon (Nikon too) are f/2!.8 versions of the popular 24-70 and 70-200 mm lengths, for what you want to shoot!.

If you look on the USA Canon website, you will see the list of the other lenses!.

As you know, it is how you use the lens that makes the shot!. USM, IF, IS will be easy !.!.!. finding a lens with internal zoom will be a little tougher!.

I don't know why you NEED the USM, IF, IS and Int Zoom, but usually those features are just icing on the cake!. The important factors when choosing a lens it its focal lengths and largest apertures available!.

Remember, it is up to the photographer to use the tools available to get THE shot using their skills!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
