Most galleries have their submission guidelines posted on their website and are always interested in talented artists that produce work similar to what they sell !.

If they ask you to send jpegs, make sure your images are professional quality and your artist statement edited carefully!.

If you have done a few exhibitions (coffee shops count) be sure to include on your resume, they want to see you have exhibited publicly!.

There is couple of ways to do it!. Find a gallery that sells your kind of work!. Call them and find out if they are looking for new artists, if they are ask them how can you submit your portfolio, and what is it supposed to contain!. Than send it in, Wait for about 3-4 weeks and give them a call if you don't hear anything from them!. Make your work and your portfolio as professional as possible!. If you don't get accepted the first time send them a reminder of your new work every 6 months or so!.
I would not approach the owner or gallery staff they are busy and usually hate that and that can slam the door in your face forever!. Go to the openings and get to know the people but don't give them your portfolio if not asked for it!.
Coffee shops are nice to start with and to meet artists and get some experience but do not generate sales usually!. Only if your work is priced low!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to attend as many openings of painting exhibitions as possible and get to know the people who run it!.
Galleries tend to display works that have a similar quality!. So pick carefully!.
Once your face is remembered by a gallery owner ask if you can show them some of your works for possible exhibition!.

Don't put your works on a CD!. These works are NEVER looked by gallery owners!. They are not a good representation of your work since so much can be enhanced by a computerWww@QuestionHome@Com

best thing for you to do is!.search all galleries in your area, or where ever you would like, and look for open to the public or local painters!.some galleries welcome new people for free!.then you will need some work to show them(1-4 paintings ) then they will judge them!.if they like it you too can be in the show!.good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
