Question: How can I improve my drawing ability!?
I've always loved art, since I was very little!. As a child I was always engrossed in this fantasy world I created in my head that I called my own!. I liked the idea of being able to draw what my mind could see, but I was never really good at it!. In my early teens I took creative writing classes thinking that if art may be too hard for me to express my feelings and dreams, I would paint a picture in the reader's mind without an actual canvas!. I dropped the idea of being a writer after I realized that the way people saw the scenes I created in my stories were completely different to how I saw them!. I want people to see these worlds and characters in my head the way I see them, so after 3 years of writing I decided I'd rather go back to art!. I have a few questions:
- If I take regular art classes at a workshop, what sort of things will I be taught!? Or would I be better off practicing from books!?
Second thing: Based on my drawings now, what stands out to you most and what doesn't, that I should improve!? Sorry for the long, lengthy answer, but I need some opinions!. Thanks in advance!. :)
Mostly my drawings have this surrealistic, dream-ish style about them because they are inspired from my own dreams!. I do try and vary style though!.

Hi :) Maybe this can help: Don't give up on writing or art if you really love it! It just means you will probably have to practive 10 time harder than everyone else!
Question 1: For art classes, were you talking about college or high school ones!? Either way, it depends on what type of art class you take but the try to teach the elements and principals of design(things like color, shape, ect), how to notice specific and general things about a work, they normally critique too to tell you what to improve on!. I would say either that or from books can be really good!. :) It just depends on which one you like better!. A good book is called Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain!. There is a workbook for it too, that helps a lot!. Either way, try not to let other people's work bother you by thinking there's is better then yours!. I know it's hard but it should be how you can improve as an artist yourself, not about them!.
2!.) Hmm they have a really original design for the surrealist stuff!. :) Maybe you could try going some in color and using some reference pictures for the basic shapes of them!? I use them a lot!. I know it's hard from the topic but, sometimes it helps!.

start by drawing simple things then draw things together like putting shapes together to make anything you can think of!.Just remember "your imagination is infinite!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

i agree with one of the answers that u got, start with drawing easier things
don't rush urself, you have a lot of time!. Okay what i would suggest is to keep practicing ur drawings, and if u want you could read books on how to draw, like anatomy for instance!.
Starting with drawing simpler things, you can draw things like, tree's eyes, and things that you think are easy to draw!.

Either way, from a book or teacher you can learn lots of things but the teacher can give feedback so that you can improve!.
You said that you liked fantasy and thats shown in your pictures!. If you started by constructing simple shapes to make the final picture that can help the proportion!. eg: http://www!.mangatutorials!.com/
