Question: Anyone know how do dampen shutter noise!?
I'm shooting wildlife, and though I could be more selective with my shots, I enjoy shooting in burst!. The problem is, even with single shots I've got a few does that are busting me from fifty to sixty yards!. Is there any way to make the shutter snap less audible!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depending on what camera model you are you using, you can lock the mirror up and compose your shots using the live view!. (Canon 40D and higher have this feature!. Not sure about Nikon!.) Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, locking up the mirror is a good way to quiet all that sound, but not practical since animals move and with the mirror locked up, you cannot follow focus!.

I have been successful using a "raincoat" for my camera!. While mine is older, here is a sample of what is available!.

Shooting one shot at a time is actually the best way to shoot wildlife!. Compose shoot, compose shoot, compose shoot!. Sometimes you may find that you will only get the chance to shoot ten or so shots before the sun gets too high or sets during your shooting sessionsWww@QuestionHome@Com

The best way is to use a range-finder with a leaf shutter!. You could tape up your mirror if it doesn't allow lock-up!. You might be able to find a viewfinder to attach to your hotshoe!. If your subject is far enough away to be focused at infinity, that is!. You could wrap your camera in a huge wad of alpaca wool!.!.!.Still, I'm rooting for the leaf shutter!. The mirror does make noise, but focal plane shutters are also quite noisy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For single shots you can lock the mirror up!. Mirror slap is a large part of the noise and vibration which can cause your pictures to be blurry at slower speeds!. Your camera user's manual should have instructions on how to do this if it's possible with your camera!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
